G1 for me all the way, the music for the movie itself was just so right for it that any other music doesn't compare to it

ok now this is coming from someone who is a music teacher and has a masters degree in music and has dabbled in composition.

I feel the Baymovies do have the best music. I personally don't like the G1 music but you also have to take into perspective that for the 1980's and for the time, that music was cool.

I like the Baymovie music by Steve Jablonsky for several reasons. He, like Hanz Zimmer, utilizes different media besides your standard orchestra. He utilizes a choir, electronics, and more drums. I love how he creates themes for different characters (Prime, Bumblebee) and also themes for objects (Cybertron, the All Spark). I like how the themes fit the character or object. The use of french horns and brass instruments to convey Prime's leadership and stance. The haunting cello playing during Bumblebee's capture was gorgoues and utilized the theme but in an entirely different way.
The use of drums and electronics for the NEST makes them seem big and bad ass the battle scene is comin'.

So for the reaons of use of different medias and the themes befitting characters and objects in different situations is why I chose the movies.

G1 had a standard style through the movie which didn't really change, and I can only listen to "You've got the touch" so many times, but like also said, you have to take it in context with the time it was produced in. I still feel though the music was stagnant and didn't change in the times it could have changed in attitude, flow and movement. Jablonsky was great in the movies with keeping the character theme but changing it for the different situation. Example drums and brass for Bumblebee's theme when he is kicking butt, and then uses the same theme but slowed down and used a cello when he was captured.

Probably more of an explanation than anyone wanted but at least it is coming from someone with an educational background in it.

And, thank you for starting a music thread, finally something I can contribute wisely to, lol.

Superlink. Seriously, it's a great soundtrack, with all sorts of great themes, in fact, I've got it in my car right now; it's good driving music. While the others have great soundtracks, the entire body of work that Superlink has is fantastic.

    Animated is second.

There are also some surprising time signature changes in the G1 cartoon. The theme itself does not stay in 4/4 time.

I noticed the 1986 G-1 movie wasn't on the poll list.

my vote goes towards the G-1 1986 Movie. I loved heard all that rock n roll music. stan bush & weird al yanovich did a great job.

I'm going to say live action movies. They just have that really excellent big movie sound to them. The score gives a lot of weight that wouldn't have been there without the right music.

My only nitpick about the movie score is that I wish they had done like the Spiderman movies and put the original theme in there.

IIRC, Steve Jablonsky was trained by Hans Zimmer. This is awesome.

    I vote Bayformers.

THIS. This so much. This this this.

I love the soundtrack to the G1 'toon. It's so cheesy yet catchy. It's charming as hell. Even in the 80's, it sounded cheesy and dated, like it was the soundtrack to a cartoon from the 60's with a strange mixture of 80's electronic bleeps and boops. It's the soundtrack to my childhood. It's a shame we only have iffy quality rips from TFCog.

This is pretty much my holy grail of holy grails. I would grab a high quality CD of the G1 background music over a Complete Fort Max.

It exists somewhere. Rhino used a bit of it in it's special features. I'd imagine Shout! Factory might have them locked away somewhere. If Shout! Factory released a special edition CD with high quality tracks, I'd pay an upwards of $300 for it.

Heck, I'd be glad if someone just did an arranged version of the music that sounds fairly close if they can't find the originals.

I like Cybertron/Galaxy Force. It's unique music had heart-stopping, spine tingling, emotional, and heart-wrenching songs that just won't stop until you fall!

The 07 movie had probably the best orchestral score I've ever heard. I listen to it all the time. Amazing!
