I have to admit, I still lack a Soundwave figure in my collection. I was never a fan of him, but he's such an important character that I think deserves a spot in my collection. Now, I have to choose between masterpiece or titans return. The masterpiece version has a fantastic robot mode and scales perfectly with my other masterpiece figures. It will cost me between 150 and 200 euro but comes with the cassettes. Titans return has a good robot mode (apart from the legs) but I don't like the new alternate form. It doesn't scale with other TR figures (maybe with masterpiece?) but has the added play value of interativity with Fortress Maximus in base mode. It doesn't come with a cassette, but it's much cheaper at roughly 60 euro.
What do you think, guys? Is TR good enough or is the masterpiece worth the increase in price?

If you are willing to put in the extra money I highly recommend getting Masterpiece Soundwave, especially if he comes with the cassettes. He was my first masterpiece figure and it immediately became one of my favorite figures.

If your looking for a good definitive Soundwave the Masterpiece version is definetly the way to go.
The Titans Return version had all theflaws you've stated, but is more fitting for a CHUG collection. I would honestly reccomend Takara's Legends Soundwave. It's a very good balance between the two. Both in quality and price.

If you have the cash, get the MP. It's FAR superior to its CHUG, TR counterpart.

Masterpiece is the only choice. It's spendy but worth every penny.

The deco is tweaked slightly, mostly that his visor is red, the Headmaster's robot mode colors are based on Soundblaster's colors (black), and his gun is colored like Soundwave's.

Really though, go MP. It's costlier, but it's just the definitive Soundwave. I still think the TR mold is worth getting, though. I'd get Blaster since he scales well with Soundwave.

As I expected, the general consensus is for the masterpiece. I'll think seriously about MP Soundwave and TR Blaster to have the best of both worlds.

If you want the titans mold consider Blaster.

Chiming in here, I would save up some $€£ and go for the MP Soundwave. It has a nice solid feel, wide range of articulation, generally good QC and with most of the cassettes bundled with it excepting Ratbat I think, makes for good value.

    Good call, in my opinion.

Because I do really, really like the Titans Return mold. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut MP Soundwave is probably my single favorite TF. Plus MP Soundwave has three decades worth of Cassettes that he's compatible with, whereas Titans Return Soundwave only has one line's worth. And to be honest, G1 Ravage is probably a better toy than TR Ravage. And MP Buzzbeak is better than TR Lasersaw.

pic.jpg Go MP. I have both and the only good thing about the TR one is the base mode for the headmasters. The MP version is a very nice figure with all of the tapes.
If you want a MP Blaster, KFC has a great version, Transistor. Either go for the 2nd run version or the red non-painted version. Just like Soundwave, there is a night and difference between the MP and TR version.

Very good Blaster, but he has cassettes? Soundwave still has the priority, though.

He comes with Rewind. But you have to buy the other cassettes which are okay. The Shattered Glass version has five of them to include Ramhorn, a Ratbattish cassette and the stegosaurus.

Masterpiece all the way. Still one of the best of the entire line.

Yeah, if money isn't an issue, go MP. The TR one looks great in robot mode, but the Hasbro Asia reissue with the five cassettes is awesome, and the glow visor is super easy to turn red with a sharpie or translucent paint, if you want it red.

Currently using my G1 soundwave on the Chugs shelf until KBB makes a voyager size KO of the MP. If I had to choose between TR and MP I would choose MP every day of the week.

Yeah personally I think the TR mould fits Blaster better, the alt mode looks way off for Soundwave to me.

MP Soundwave looks fantastic though I don't own one because my preorder reissue just refuses to ship...

MP hands down. TR Soundwave/blaster just feels like a bloated KO
