All of them annoy me from time to time, but line-wide gimmicks is the one that I'd like to see changed the most. G1 subgroups were sweet...combiners, triplechangers, dinobots, etc. Now, Cybertron is almost there with the different aesthetics for each planet, but everything having a cyberkey is still a bit of a burden, albeit FAR FAR better done than minicon integration. I still feel that transforming is the gimmick and they don't consistently need something fresh, but I understand them spicing things up from time to time.

Projectile and pointy bit restrictions. Risk-taking can be healthy.

The Gimmick factor. I don't need to hear Armada Megatron say "Decepticons, ATTACK! PEW, PEW, PEW!" every time I turn his god-damn cannon turret.

Gimmicks are okay if they don't compromise the figure. Energon weapons were fun. Minicons too sometimes. I loathe the springy spinny waist attack thing that means the figure loses proper waist articulation. And Bay Barricade's springy fist thing annoyed too because it would go off if someone farted in the next room.
Stuff like Classics two-pack Megatron's spastic spinning hand gun barrel wotsit made his arm rubbish

It's got nothing to do with kid-friendly, but I hate the AutoBreak gimmick TF figures are stuck with now. A pop-up head is fine, but not when a broken gear can ruin the entire figure.

True. But I think it's worth the reviveal since more kid-friendly things seem to inform on TF design these days. :)

And I missed this thread first time around. :p
