Since October starts this Saturday, it's time for the Question of the day, What version of Hellsing do you prefer? I go with Ultimate & yes, Hellsing Abridged.
Hellsing Ultimate is the better of the official adaptations, but I'd be lying if I said one of the best things it ever created wasn't it's TeamFourStar abridged series.
I have yet to sit down and watch the actual show (really need to get Crunchyroll) but I did watch the Abridged series... And I love it, Teamfourstar are the masters of abridgments. "Do you think if I shoot them with my gun Lucky Charms will explode everywhere?"
Ultimate and the Abridged series are both great. Gonzo's adaptation was dog shit. It put me to sleep literally.
I just don't feel like the Abridged version is all that funny anymore. Episodes 5 and 6 were borderline boring with barely any really great jokes. The year+ breaks between each episode doesn't help matters either. Usually time is supposed to improve the quality of something, but I've felt those two episodes could have been released immediately after episode 4.
Honestly? I think I might just like Gonzo's most. It's slow, forboding, lacks the stupid "comedy" and goofy over the top violence. It feels more suspenseful and gloomy, despite being wildly inaccurate. I never got into Abridged. I like TFS just fine, but it wasn't all that funny to me.
See, I can get some of those reasons up until Incognito happens. Like I enjoyed the snuff film episode despite it being filler, but the Incognito stuff was terrible. It explained nothing, there was no payoff to the rivalry between Anderson and Alucard, and Incognito doesn't make sense. I also don't like how they tried to make this big revelation that Alucard was Vlad. Oh, and then there was the lack of an actual ending. You know your ending is crap when you do it in 1988 NES text form.
