well since we have a thread on which is the g1 shelfwarmer way back in the 80s. I figure its good to know who was the very hardest to find back then. So when you went to the toystore who the never there or always sold out. I remember that one christmas one old lady got killed at toysrus when people all roam in for transformers, when the doors opened.
For me the htf g1 items that I wanted as a kid, but could not find was shockwave, blaster was pretty tough to find, believe it or not the insecticons, and jetfire didnt last too long. I only went to toyrus back then once a week. if they were sold out it would then be another week. as for shockwave, I never remember seeing him ever on the shelf.

Soundwave. I always wanted one, but no stores ever had him in stock. Veritable tonnes of the Auto-cars, but rarely any Decepticons other than an occasional Starscream.

Jetfire. I called the store every day to ask if they had some, and when they did, I howled and cried until my Mom would drive me there to buy it.

Probably Hook? I remember having one hell of a time finding him.... My dad drove around for hours until we finally got all 6. We found the first 5 at Walmart and Hook was at some drug store.

    Ah the old days...

I remember buying Motormaster at Service Merchandise. Although I wasn't really old enough to chase transformers as I do now, I never saw him before and was excited to pout till my Dad bought him for me.

I remember it took me almost a month to obtain Thunderwing way back then. Also, I only ever saw Overlord on the shelves once; to this day, I regret not having enough money with me at the time.

Back then I had no concept of what "should" be out so I just picked something from the pegs that I could afford. I bought the smaller toys with my allowance and got bigger ones for b'day and christmas. I was lucky enough to get Shockwave and Devastator gift set for those occasions.

I can't recall not finding anything back then. After all, when they were new, they were all over the place! I miss those days! Back when Toys R Us really rocked! Then again, the economy was way better then too.
I can even remember seeing Jetfire at some one-off toy store that was outside a shopping mall in Reno I think it was back in the 80s. It was near a restaurant that we frequently visited and I'd always went to that toy store. Can't remember what it was called, but I specifically remember seeing Jetfire on the very tip top shelf. I think he was like $50 bucks back then.
I can't really recall which was the hardest one to find. Maybe Megatron?

Optimus prime. That was the first toy my parents made me save for, and once I had saved enough, he was nowhere to be found. We looked in every store we could, and my aunt even used her lunch breaks to look for me. When I finally got it, it was definitely worth the wait.

Sunstreaker. I always wanted but, could never find him.

Everyone else seemed readily avalible, at least at TRU, Burbank.

I don't know how rare or plentiful they actually were, but I remember seeing Whirl & Roadbuster on shelves only once or twice ever, in very small quantities.

Sunstreaker for me, I had both of my parents look for him when ever they went out. That's one TF that will have to be a knock off for me to own.
