With many takes on G1 over the years, with the comics ignoring previous ones, or being set in a whole new time, like Hearts of Steel, which G1 would you consider your main one?

Definitely the Marvel comics saga, the UK series (which includes the US material). Nothing else comes close, and I don't suppose it ever will :)

To me G1 and IDW are two separate things. When you say G1 I think of the actual first generation. Even though IDW is better.

Voting Marvel because it holds better continuity and lasting plots than the cartoon. The cartoon was too much one offs to use as base.

USA cartoon. Though I do appreciate elements of the JG1 cartoon relating to the Masters and such.

I may be a younger fan but the old 80's cartoon was honestly the one that left the biggest impression on me.

IDW. It's not just my main G1, it's my favourite Transformers continuity of all, although it has become more it's own thing than being strictly G1-based in recent years.

Too many poll choices. More than half of them are not Generation 1. Generation 1 lasted from 1984 until the point Generation 2 began in 1993. At that point, the Generation was over. In terms of fiction, G1 included the Sunbow cartoon, some follow up cartoons in Japan, Marvel comics from both the US and UK, some story and coloring books, the Tech Specs, and that's it.

Dreamwave, IDW, whatever else in the decades after that... if you want to call it "pseudo-G1" or "neo G1" or whatever, knock yourself out. But they're not actual G1.

My main interpretation of G1 is the American (Sunbow) cartoon, followed closely behind by the Marvel (U.S.) comic, and "ReGeneration One". IDW main series(-es) never come into the equation.
(The Japanese trilogy is close third, so long as its 'hiccups' don't contradict my interpretation of the Sunbow cartoon.)

I'm in it for Sunbow G1 American transitioning into Japanese Headmasters and so on. Early issues of Marvel US comics were appreciated. IDW now helps expand on some lore and present an alternate take on story creation.

US Cartoon for me having never delved into the others to deep, however IDW is slowly taking over and is the strongest influence when it comes to buying figures.

The UK/US Marvel comics for me, although the Sunbow cartoon was also great.

Anything having to do with the G1 cast and setting classifies as G1. That's like also saying that the IDW Beast Wars comics don't count because "Well, they weren't released between 1996 and 1999, so its not actually Beast Wars." The Dreamwave/IDW/Fun Publications stuff falls under the realm of alternate realities, so they can exist as one's main continuity if one chooses.
