I've seen so many threads on so many figures where people slam and nitpick the crap out of designs where the casual viewer would say it looks just fine. Paint application, visible pegs, bad face sculpts, bad proportions, "not G1 enough", "TOO G1", the list can go on.

Heck, just with the recent Optimus race, arguments get heated over things like stripes, leg swivels, colors, head shapes, windows, legs...just to name a few. It's slightly exhausting.

But it got me thinking, are there figures that the majority of people feel these companies nailed it to represent the G1 cartoon? As in there are no complaints to be heard, and everyone collectively agrees its the perfect rendition of the character? This is a question strictly of aesthetics and not the actual transformation...which in my opinion sometimes need to have sacrifices made to properly get the character right in bot and alt modes.

My perfect one is Fans Toys Phoenix. I think is visually nearly identical to Skyfire.

To me, a figure fits my collection when it looks like I remember from when I was young. Not necesserely more toon accurate. I don't like the early MPs. For instance, Bumblebees alt mode is too realistic to me. So I like it that MPs becoming more toon accurate. But too toon accurate is also not right. FT Phoenix is nearly perfect to me.

You're assuming everyone wants the cartoon look.
Your question would be less biased if you had asked:

"are there figures that the majority of people feel these companies nailed it to represent the best version of the G1 character?"

Yep. phrasing it that way is the exact reason why the arguments the OP found exhausting happen.

    Maybe he should of asked:

"are there figures that the majority of people feel these companies nailed it to represent the version of the G1 character I like best?"

You guys are right. If I could fix the title I would. But asking what best represents their G1 character is probably better worded, though I'm sure different people will still interpret that in their own way. I'm more just curious to hear which figures people feel has little to no complaints...since I've rarely read that on this forum...and never read it on Facebook.

Knit picky sons of bitches at 7am... and yes you’re all on pacific standard time in America with me so get used to it.

The Magic Square legend scale figures are best for G1 toon accuracy. Suck an egg MP scale!

MP Soundwave and cassettes (except Ravage)
    MP Sideswipe
    MP Prowl
    MP Wheeljack
    Cubex Huffer
    Badcube Warpath
    MT Grapple
    FT Bombshell
    FT Reflector
    XTB Beachcomber

Completely happy with those as they are.
There are few others who come close but most others I have are "they'll do"

not trying to be.. it's just a really sore topic for me too. the endless arguing is pretty tiring, so i completely agree with OP. Funny comment though, I was showing my wife the MS OP and comparing it to all the other MP OPs and the cartoon. She was like, I like this one the best, but it's missing the gas tanks on the legs. I had a double take and looked. They are there, just small. So the pickiness even extends to non-fans!

    lol

    I'd say...

    MP Prowl, Grapple, Inferno, Megatron
    MT Downbeat, Meteor
    FT Phoenix, Koot, Hoodlum
    XTB Paean, Andras, Stunticons
    MMC Terraegis, Jaguar
    KFC Crash Hog, Dumpyard

...are amongst the closest representations of toon characters. Many other figures take some liberties - which isn't a bad thing at all. I wouldn't want giant yellow and plain MP Dinobots.

i had that for a while, and it is pretty cool for what it is. Too small though. If they made it 20+ inches, I would totally buy it as a display piece.

Of recent purchases, the best representation for me are easily the MMC tape bots. I love Jaguar, Fury, and Riot.
