Just like it says on the tin. Brainstorm has had a few new toys in recent years, so which one is your favourite? You can also toss the Legends Voyager release in with the Generations figure, since there's little difference between them.
Titans Return Brainstorm! A serious improvement. Not only is he in scale with his Headmaster brothers in arm but he fixes SOOOOOO many issues with that inferior voyager. A nicer and more G1 paint scheme. A working headmaster gimmick (seriously, can't transform the voyager cause I fear taking Arcana out like he is going to BREAK). He is just like, perfect where as the voyager could of been good but QC and bad design choices brought it down heavily.
I had to go with the Legends deluxe, even though the Walgreen's is beautiful. I just really dig that he's different in some ways, not only from a g1 color standpoint, but typical ways as well. Not often does Autobot retail stuff come with such a highlight on black parts, and thosr wings really gives it a unique look with the rest of the colors all coming together in the center of robot mode. And the face is superb, with the deep-set blue eyes showing a pretty serious tone through the yellow. I usually prefer faceplates, but this is pretty badass.
The Takara version of the Generations Brainstorm, the LG-09. Looks like it stepped out of an IDW comic. I found the Walgreen one a bit skinny.
The voyager isn't bad but doesn't fit in with any other toys. Titans Return is my pick, looks great with the other Autobots and it has the faceplate head that I prefer.
I feel like 90% of this thread will basically come down to "Did you want an MTMTE Brainstorm or a US G1 Brainstorm or a Japanese Headmasters Brainstorm."
I'm the other 10%. My only connection to the character is Rebirth and I have zero connection to MTMTE (or any IDW book). While I like the Deluxe I really prefer the Voyager in pretty much all regards. I am from the Classics line being an Update camp though so G1 accuracy isn't the most important aspect for me. I think the Voyager just looks a ton better and is instantly recognizable as Brainstorm in all ways. I regret buying the Deluxe as it was an impulse buy I got because it was an Exclusive and In scale.
I thought I liked generations more than Titans return but last week I pulled out both for a comparison and I like Titans return more. I like the headsculpt more. I equally like both color decos. The only issue I have with the TR figure is the backpack. I wish the guns came off and or had the ability to rotate the backpack to have the guns behind the shoulders.
I like the generations and tr for different reasons. Though if the generations was alightly smaller, had the titanmaster system instead of the system he has and if they had made the other og headmasters the same way there would be no contest. Still hoping someone produces high quality oversized KO's of the original tr headmasters cause these guys really should be voyager sized.
Takara Legends Voyager Brainstorm... features both improved QC and additional tampographs/paint over the Hasbro version. The deluxe Legends version is nice, but the single mold front nosepiece and inability to mount the guns on his back in the correct orientation hold him back from the top spot. Plus he shares his mold with Blurr (goodbye uniqueness), and is supposed to be a space fighter with a cockpit that doesn't even close fully in the vacuum of space (stupid). It's a better figure... but a terrible Brainstorm.
Walgreens Brainstorm. The Generations version was fun (and he has a better cockpit); but given that Brainstorm is kinda my least favorite of the Autobot headmasters, I'm more interested in how he fits in with the others than I am with him as a standalone figure. Plus, I love that deep teal and brownish grey of the Walgreens version... it's like they've pre-yellowed him to match what G1 Brainstorm toys look like today.
Generations Voyager followed by the Walgreens Deluxe. -The voyager is awesome. I have absolutely no issues with the Headmaster gimmick, the articulation is nearly perfect and it's just a downright fun and solid figure. -The Walgreens version is beautiful and scales with the rest of the line. BUT, it's a Blurr retool. I also take points away for the hand covers just hanging off the arms and the backpack guns not being able to orient properly (like the voyager does). Overall, with no connection to the character whatsoever, going only by the toys, IMO the Voyager is the better figure.
