Optimus barely remembered Ironhide after he died. Ratchet's death enraged him so badly he was about to murder a man, something he swore to never do.

Like AOE or not, I give them credit for trying to give Optimus more character than in the last 3 films.

Ironhide had more of a presence as a character, so it was sad to see him go, but I think Ratchet's death was more impactful in and of itself.

The Autobot Medic getting shot to shreds by humans and then brutally finished off by Lockdown was a bit unnerving to see (plus the fact that his death has actual ramifications later on in the movie). Ironhide, meanwhile, was kind of just the biggest non-Optimus or Bumblebee Autobot they could have Sentinel kill off to sell his villainy.

Personally, Ironhide 100% since growing up with the films Ironhide was always my favorite (besides Prime of course) and he was one of the ones who had some personality showing of the characters in these movies. So when he died I was not expecting it and I was a bit sad to see him die. It didn't make me cry or probably hurt me like it did for those that watched the 86 movie as a kid but it did hit me a bit.

Honestly, I can't compare those 2 deaths. Why? Because to me, the greater tragedy is how the bayverse didn't bother to give them much greater characterization. . .

Ironhide was one of the few who had a semblance of personality/characterization and they kill him...

A semblance ain't much, though;) . . .Same thing with Jazz and countless others. I was watching a film with Denzel the other day, and I recall watching "Saving Private Ryan" back in the day. While those 2 films aren't about cybertronians, my point is this: I felt more for the characters in those 2 examples more than I ever have in bayverse.

Ironhide's death absolutely destroyed me. You try watching your Autobot main on the PS3 disintegrate at age 7.

Ratchet's was pretty messed up too, watching this poor medic get shredded by bullets while begging for his life but it was less shocking imo. We saw him pretty much spit in Lockdown's face before he died. Like, at least he went out with dignity and was acknowledged by Optimus.

I didn't say I didn't feel anything;)  Were Ratchet & Ironhide's deaths horrible? Yes. Was Jazz's death horrible? Yes. Heck, was Cliffjumper's (who was not a bayverse character, but an Autobot nonetheless) death also horrible? Yes. Irregardless of those things, the fact remains that Ratchet, Jazz, Ironhide and many other bayverse characters were not characterized sufficiently.

I feel they're about even for me, but if I had to pick I'd go with Ratchet. Ironhide is my boy and seeing him go out like that, betrayed, shot in the back, and disintegrated, was rough. It just sucks that there isn't anything said about him afterward. Ratchet was alone, and seemed genuinely confused and scared with what was going on, and seeing him torn apart slowly just to get finished off by Lockdown was brutal. Plus he was mourned for and brought up again later as being the thing that incited the KSI raid and Prime's anger.

Ironhide works as being a genuinely surprising (unless you got spoiled by the leaked comics) death of a popular character. Ratchet works as a legitimate gut punch in showing how brutal Cemetary Wind and Lockdown are.

Agreed, especially since Ironhide was my favorite growing up (even went as him for Halloween when DOTM came out or at the least got a costume of him when a Halloween costume came out), this image just hurts a bit to look at.

It's kind of hard to feel sad for a bare minimum character, no matter how much the movie wants me to be.

I genuinely cringe while watching the lead up to Ironhide getting shot because it's so painfully obvious that Sentinel is up to something, because literally everything about how the scene is shot and built up is more or less screaming at you that SENTINEL IS UP TO NO GOOD.

Ratchet's death sucks, but he's just... not developed enough, except for the most bare minimum.

Jazz's demise probably made me the most upset, not because the scene was that sad but because Jazz has always been my favorite and I was annoyed that they killed him off. >:[

Exactly. That's another part of my previous point-when characterization is thorough, then one is able to care more about a character. I do like that Ratchet, like Cliffjumper in BB, refused to give up info on where Optimus Prime was. Yet, I also remember an episode of Transformers Prime where Ratchet was getting pissed off due to feeling unappreciated for his medical prowess. We never saw that prowess in the bayverse.

Ratchet I suppose but none of those movies were THAT good. Dinobot from Beast Wars was better than everyone else combined. Dying fighting the entire predacon army to save the human race.

This is true, and I know I should have known better, but I simply did not expect that level of subtlety from the Bay movies. The idea that Bayverse writing could have plot-twists simply did not occur to me.

Ratchet just because Prime actually responds to it in an appropriate manner
