Any word if rat trap or dinobot will be in ROTB?

Two incredible characters seem to have been left out.

 

Nope.

No Preds or Decepticons despite being promised as being in the film, either.

The only villains are Terrorcons. The toy listings don't lie.

Quite frankly, I’m glad for that. Would’ve been way too much. Hell, what were already getting is bordering on being too much to juggle. Can’t imagine how much more of a clusterfuck the movie could’ve been if it had to also juggle Predacons and Decepticons.

 

I could be wrong but I swear I heard it mentioned somewhere that the Predacons were in the movie. Could have just been a rumor though

 

I'm guessing they're gonna be saved for the potential BW spin off movie/show if ROTB becomes a hit both critically and financially which given on how we've got a large cast already that's for the best for now. After all if there's a silver lining to us having four of the Maximals be in ROTB it's that we'll get the general introduction who the Maximals are and their battles with the Predacons there if a brief one which will then leave a lot more room to develop it further in the spin off.

Also if they can have Rattrap be voiced by Tom Kenny who technically already voiced him in Animated and does a good Rattrap like voice for Wheelie in the Bayverse and Steve Blum voicing Dinobot that'd be even better.

 

They were announced as being included during the initial movie reveal. Now with the test screening, we know:

We'll only see a bunch of Skorponok clones—if they don't cut it out of the movie.

 

While I'm happy that there aren't 5 factions bloating everything, this is giving me AOE vibes -and that's not good.

AOE only had "Galvatron", Lockdown, and Stinger (who himself barely had any presence at all) as the main robo-baddies.

 

Why does it matter?

No future movie is going to have every character that every fan would want. I would love a Transformers movie with Shrek, Farquaadus the Dreklord, Dulockdown, and Charmscream, but that's probably not happening anytime soon, and I am perfectly okay with that.

 

This is less about characters that I necessarily want in the film, but the one(s) they choose need to have presence.

I liked Lockdown well enough, but even he couldn't save Galvatron and Stinger from feeling like tacked on fodder.

 

My comment was about RotB, not AoE, although I do think AoE is much better at incorporating and balancing it's different robot antagonists than given credit.

 

Presumably they're being saved for a more BW focused spinoff (at least I imagine that's the idea). If you're actually trying to adapt the BW story in any reasonable approximation then those 2 are the core characters.

You know what man, maybe that's a good thing five fractions in one movie? I might just be too much to handle.

 

That was the impression many had when the announcement was initially made, but really they should have just stuck with Decepticons and not tried to shove in Beast Wars. Makes no sense to have the Bumblebee movie involve the Great War, only for the sequel to apparently forget all about the sole reason the Autobots are even on the planet in the first place.

 

I'm not against having beasts wars in the movies. But they need to keep it simple for now. They can add them later on. Decepticons are hunting the autobots. And while they're doing that, they're taking Earth's natural resources. So the autobots have to counter attack. Or something like that. I would've been fine with that. Add some OG characters as well as new characters. But that just me.

 

Crescent is probably just a toy-only Maximal.

As for the opening, isn't Optimus Prime supposed to be narrating? He doesn't seem to know anything about the Maximals, so not exactly sure how he'd be able to narrate that scene.

 

Generally I think that's how the sequel to BB should have gone. Autobots are trying to get used to the new status quo on Earth, Decepticons send a scouting party (I.E. Stunticons) to Earth to see what's up (three advance soldiers suddenly radio silent on some backwater planet of no importance will make that planet important), Autobots make alliances with humans and make a stand over the course of the movie, defeating the Decepticions but nobody dies, Decepticons radio back "yeah Prime and co. are here, also there's this stuff called 'gasoline' which we can compress into Energon and humans are weak so we can just take as much as we want", and have the final scene be Megatron on Cybertron declaring he's taking a detachment to Earth to finish Prime off.

 

From everything we've heard, the Maximals in ROTB are less there to adapt the cast/story of Beast Wars and more as a side-feature to the main plot ala the Dinobots of AOE. (albeit with actual dialogue and story significance)

I personally would've dropped Airazor and subbed in Rattrap to at least have the initial four Axalon crew members, but they likely wanted to have at least one female character in each faction.
