Can someone help me out? I'm just curious and I can't seem to find out where Ratchet is from. Cybertronians don't have last names per se, so they often go with "Rodimus from Nyon". I can't find where Ratchet was forged, it's not on the TFwiki. Does it say anywhere?
I have NEVER seen Transformers referred to like that. It's always just Optimus Prime or Rodimus... where did you see them called "___ from ___"?
Yeah, in IDW multiple robots can have similar or the same names, like humans do, so the place of "birth" can help distinguish them. Or they will just change their name, like Prowl/Dent, but that's usually only if one becomes famous. I mean, it is an entire planet. They're bound to run out of names eventually.

They may be references. I honestly can't afford to buy all the comics and the like in the TF world, so I only stick to IDW, therefore most of my knowledge is from there. I DO know there -are- obviously place names on Cybertron, the city of Iacon being a major one. TFwiki describes Cybertron as "...a planet of towering future cities without end and vast metallic plains, spiraling metal mountains and bottomless neon-lit chasms." so it's not hard to assume those mountains, plains and cities would have names and the like. And apparently, wherever your hotspot was (where your spark burst into life), is your "home" and often used as a last name type feature, though it's actually rarely used. I only know of "Hot Rod of Nyon" and about 3 others, that's it.
