Today we can read our beloved Transformers comics in a variety ways whether digitally or physically and can read comics as single issues, TPB, or larger Collections Editions, so I thought it would be interesting to see people's preferences in a poll.

I've organized the poll into two categories:

    • The first three options are the medium by which you read your comics. Digital or Physical.

    • The next five are the type of comics you typically read/purchase. Single issues, TPBs, or Hardcover Collection Editions.

I also set the poll at 4 votes so hopefully that's enough for people to share their preferences.

I tried to be as comprehensive as possible but I might have missed some.

Share your thought too, I know this topic is not just interesting to me and I'm sure other board members would like to know the best way to read the newest releases.

It doesn't get any less steep than that, anywhere, if you want to read the individual issues.

I wait for TPB, which is a bit cheaper. I also read comics mainly on Comixology these days, because I like their formatting a lot more than iBooks'. But unfortunately, Transformers comics are region blocked on Comixology in Japan for whatever weird reason.

A lot of brick and mortar comic shops offer a small discount for regular subscribers, but that will likely only save you about half a dollar. (Coincidentally that is how I buy my comics.) Otherwise after a month, the price on Comixology drops to $2 an issue, and the trades typically are priced similarly there (e.g. a trade with 4 issues is 7.99.) I'd like to say there isn't a good reason to wait for the trade at that point, but it isn't uncommon for editorial errors to get fixed in the trade but not in the individual digital issues.

My nearest comic shop is over thirty miles away, a bit far for someone who doesn't drive. I buy the individual issues form comixology, then buy the TPB from the CBS when I can get over there.

I get them on Comixology the day they come out because I'm hooked, but I only buy the IDW Lost Light series, so it's only $4-something a month for me. I basically had to limit myself to one, and fell in love with MTMTE.

I bought the first 3 volumes of the hardbacks for phase two but stopped once I got hooked and wanted to read issues faster. I have so many TPB's of MTMTE and RID/Transformers on comixology that I wasn't even sure if it was worth getting the physics copies.

I think I might go back and pick up the collection editions if I see them on sale.

Still not sure if it's worth subscribing to the series and paying each month. I guess it was a mistake to read the first two issues because I already know I'm hooked.

I pick up my comics once a monthish–usually the week MTMTE/now Lost Light comes out–from my nearest comic book shop, the odd digital issue when I'm feeling impatient (or iTunes when they forget to push an issue's release back when there's an IRL delay), and the TPBs on a whenevz basis as well.

I buy individual issues thru mail order and then, when IDW does an inevitable sale (they really put everything on sale sooner or later) at Comixology, I usually grab back issues or collections, whichever's cheaper so I can have MTMTE/LL/whatever to read on my tablet, as well.

If something's good enough, I may triple dip (LSotW, f'r instance).

I'm usually behind on a TPB so I never have to deal with a break like MTMTE had (however many months that was). I just ordered MTMTE Volume Ten after getting 9 in December so I'll just wait for the first Lost Light TPB.

This would make for an excellent multi-select poll, considering we're frequently told digital sales are insignificant, yet they seem well represented on the site.

I used to buy from Comixology, however the latest update was no compatible with my first-gen tablet so I now purchase through itunes/ibooks.

Comixology. On my tablet or computer screen. I use the Madefire app that IDW switched too but really don't like it.

Should have known someone would take the title literally. Well done sir. Well done. :thumbs2:

I should have thought to add a poll when I first created this thread. Wish I could add one now, but it's not an option for editing a post. Maybe I'll create a new thread and ask a mod to merge them for me because now I'm really curious to see this laid out in a comprehensive list and see what people prefer.

Edit: Poll has been created (Obviously)

I read TAAO and LL on Comixology and later I buy the physical TPB of LL on Amazon. I bought the first issue of LL with the variant cover from RIPT. LSOTW I have as hard cover.
The whole run of IDW Transformers books that I first read as pirated downloads I later bought as TPBs as well from Amazon. I've been buying Transformers books since MTMTE. I could not wait until they put the scans online, so I bought it. Supporting the comics you like is better anyway.

I did this with Season 2 of MTMTE. Prior to that I would only read TPBs ordered by my dad from Amazon, but that was before I learned to make a pull list of sorts at a local bookstore. I started out with MTMTE #13 and caught up to the rest of Season 1 with a TPB binge. Then I kinda fell into a lull with keeping up before next learning to read .cbr scans. And that brings things full circle.

Currently, I'm going to be buying Nick Roche's subscription variants of Lost Light as I feel compelled to collect those covers of his with that planet theme going on. Once that's through I'll just wait for Amazon deliveries again. As for the rest of IDWs TF titles I suppose I'm content with reading scans. I've recently read Optimus Prime #1-3 in an online reader since Kei Zama's lineart intrigues me, plus you can never go wrong with Josh Burcham on colors. But now that I think of it, I could put some money behind that new Optimus series, if only the story didn't rely on plenty of character flashbacks.

I read the Optimus books this way this morning. Art is good, but story is meh. When the humans appeared, I completely skipped those pages, nothing lost. They just take away panels from the transformers story. Definitely not worth the price they are going for... Especially funny when the whole previous book is captured by the recap. So it would be sufficient enough just reading the recaps :lol
