For me this is tougher than ranking the Megatrons, but here goes:

1. Beast Wars/ Beast Machines Optimus Primal: Yes, I'm even counting his portrayal in BM. He's not perfect, nor does he aspire to be. He's a regular guy thrown into insane situations that would make most people crumble under pressure. Yet somehow he keeps it together, and even when he's screwed up royally (Fallout), he finds a way to make it right. Also, he surrounds himself with the best people he can find. When he doesn't know something, he calls on Rhinox. When he needs a demolitions expert, he calls on Rattrap. He really knows how to utilize his team and makes the most of them. Oh yeah, and buttloads of personality!

2. Animated Prime: Just a fun character trying to make his way through life after having all his dreams of being an Elite Guardsman shattered. He's the kind of guy that, despite feelings of disappointment, goes ahead and tries to make the best of what he's got. And he often buries his disappointment so as not to drag his friends and crew down with him in a slump of depression. We really get to watch him grow from this low-rank captain into the Prime of legend, and I love watching that.

3. G1 Prime: The original and still in the top 3. He may not be quite 3-dimensional, but he's certainly not 1-dimensional. He's got more depth to him than that. I've always preferred cartoon G1 Prime to all his comic incarnations. I think it really is the voice that brings him to life.

4. Movie Prime: Same deal. It's the voice. Basically the same character as G1 Prime.

6. Armada Prime: Not bad. Not great, but not bad. He gets a lot of great moments to shine like his debate with Unicron in "Origin", I think it was.

5. Cybertron Prime: Doesn't seem to be much happening with this guy here, though I do like the whole dilemma he creates for himself by forbidding contact with any inhabitants of the worlds they visit. I like his interactions with Vector, but overall this is Prime the legend and not Prime the character.

7. RiD Prime: Not a bad guy, but he has very little depth to him. I like his look, I think he's a decent commander, but there's no personality. Sometimes I wish all the fanfics and jokes about him hooking up with TAI were true, just so there'd be a little something more to his character.

8. Energon Prime: "We've got teamwork on our side! Now everyone stay back while I go save the universe." That, in a nutshell, is Energon Prime. The most flat, the most boring, the most 1-dimensional cardboard cutout wannabe of a Prime ever. A real embarrassment to the name. His bone-headed, WTF logic somehow never failed to work like the time he started pushing against Unicron and said, "Space is the great equalizer! It might just be possible!" And then Unicron actually started to move backwards. WTF??? Or the time he and his troops were trapped in a toxic gas cloud and spotted a door. "Whatever's on the other side of that door might be worse than the certain death we face in this poison cloud!" WTF??? And then the cloud cleared up miraculously... and then they went through the door!! WTF???

I'll rank the Starscreams later.
