Seriously, we had monstrosity with the awesome story of megatron fighting his way off junkion, running alongside the autobots fighting a city sized mecha dinosaur! But yet, while other aspects of this series and the one before it have been referenced, and clearly treated as canon...No trypticon! Megatron puts Pentius's spark inside trypticon, we see his eyes light up...Then nothing. No one ever says "Oh hey remember when we fought trypticon" or "Remember how megatron has a giant dinosaur hiding out somewhere?". What happened to trypticon?

We really don't know. Maybe he was one of the "there are others" that Megatron mentioned back during Dark Cybertron, or maybe the upcoming comic in that same vein will show what happened to him.

If I was you I'd just try and forget Monstrosity ever happened.

We might find out a bit of what became of him in Primacy this August.

He also appeared in another IDW book, as I recall... Spotlight Blaster, I think. It was a cameo, though he still took up most of a splash page. Not sure if IDW is just quietly pretending it didn't happen, or if they have a plan to explain how he comes to work with the Cons later.

He was seen in the stormbringer flashback of both armies fighting against a lone thunderwing. Really not sure how that fits in with (the very literally titled) monstrosity

If he was fighting Thunderwing, he may be dead now.
No, wait... He was alive in spotlight after Thunderwing.

But if he has no space bridge ability, then he'd be stranded on Cybertron all the time during the Chaos and Dark Cybertron events. He may be dead anyway.

I (foolishly) hold out hope that Primacy will elaborate on how putting a Quintesson's spark inside a rampaging prehistoric monster turns them into a Decepticon.

But yeah, his chronologically latest appearance is in flashback in Spotlight: Blaster, set shortly after Thunderwing's original rampage. Who knows what he's up to nowadays...

I'm going to guess incapacitated on some barren planet somewhere after having a encounter with the Wreckers or Metroplex.

So far from what I've remembered we've seen him pop up in cameos in Spotlight Blaster, Stormbringer and in AHM 13.

Maybe IDW Typticon can transform into a Starship/ spacestation like the one FOC?

Personally I'd like to see hints that Pentius was taking over Trypticon and has sent him off to find the Quintessons.

I'm still waiting on an explanation of how a Dead Universe apocalypse god who predates the war can suddenly seize control of anyone who's ever been a Decepticon, despite that being an ideological choice only. Has IDW ever patched up that one, or are they just hoping people will forget about it?

I sincerely doubt that they'd just casually dispose of Trypticon, off-page and unremarked. I figure he's out there somewhere. There's still some work to be done on his backstory, obviously.

    Me too.
And if it's about personality, then... A few Autobots should be also included into D-supergestalt.
After I saw how Sideswipe was behaving towards NAILS and Cons after the war... He was like model example what was wrong with the Autobot police before the war.

You'll be waiting a while for that one methinks. Maybe said force of apocalyptic intent just rocked a massive stonker for purple and obsessively picked those with a Decepticon insignia.

Come on, that's gonna be better than what we end up with.

As for Trypticon, I'm surprised nobody has picked up on the fact he is clearly Tarn.

    I'll be at the bar.

They both start with a "T". Trypticon is Tarn, confirmed.

Trypticon is bigger than Tarn. Trypticon is the combined form of 1000 Tarns, confirmed.

It's not remotely a GOOD explanation, but it's the only one we'll get. The signal grabbed Decepticons by exploiting their "unity of purpose." It didn't make sense for Drift at the time, but MtMtE showed that he still struggles with 'con tendencies all the time. We later learn that the signal was a complete no-sell on Shockwave because he never saw himself as being a Decepticon at all.

If that's not good enough, we also learn in MtMtE that there is a physical marker for Decepticons: a piece of their spark chamber is missing.

It's weak, yes, and I'm pretty sure writing and editorial has moved on. Roberts has a very "Doctor Who" style, and if you watch that show hoping they go back and explain a plotline that didn't make sense to you two years ago, you are doomed to disappointment.

The one part of the pseudo-mystical combiner process in IDW that I do particularly like is that it explains why "subgroups" are more likely to become combiners. It works on pre-existing commonalities.

EDIT: Oh yeah Trypticon. IDW just plain doesn't bring up characters for awhile until it comes up with a plot for them, and then they can explain what they've been off doing in a panel or two. We also haven't seen Thunderwing or Sixshot for years, and Omega Supreme and Superion are conveniently convalescent.

Could it have something to do with the Decepti-brand process? It was hinted that it's quite invasive 'They take a piece of your spark casing and...'

Something that D-void might have been able to capitalise on, and why it affected Drift, although he was able to fight it. All supposition of course.

Wow, well done that sort of works, never thought I would say that. Even though D -void sucks I am still kind if curious about what all those numbers meant

Yeah, I wasn't happy about that. Not that I'm a huge Sideswipe superfan or anything, but I think Barber really had the wrong take on his character. Sideswipe isn't a bully... he's a rebel.

    Don't be such a scale-nazi. Mass-shifting, obvs. :p

I was thinking the same thing. Obviously it doesn't excuse whatever logic they were using when they wrote Chaos, but the Decepticon Initiation procedure provides a handy foothold for a retcon.

^ However it cannot be the whole story if Shockwave has undergone a similar initiation.

The issues of RiD leading up to DC make it pretty clear: Megatron was able to resist the signal with his famed strength of will, but Shockwave completely ignored it. And poor Drift had to fuckin' stab himself, how is that fair.
