Where did it go wrong? Bad directing or poor script?

I honestly think the having to cater to China stuff because they want their film market was part of the problem.

The film just ended up dragging out so long because they had to get everyone to the final battle to happen in China.

Dinobots too, I think Hasbro forced them in there.

If the film had ended with the raid on Lockdown's ship and the final battle happened there instead of dragging it out so they could go to China, they could have shaved off a good half hour of the film.

Pretty sure this is a team effort.
I dont think the writers of all the movies wrote girls to be wearing short-shorts with high heels.

I've found it easier to watch the Transformers movies in segments. Just watch the bits I like and skip the rest.

I've long given up on the storytelling skills of the guys making the Transformers movies, but I was under the impression that AOE was supposed to be an improvement on the previous three in other areas (more robot time, etc).

Kruger said in a recently published interview that Bay is interested in creating spectacle, and "a ride," and that plot cohesion, and logic are at the bottom of the list of priorities, so much so that the story structure is "experimental."

Sounds like Kruger is taking his cues from Bay on what to write, and not that Bay is just shooting Kruger's first script.

Blame seems to be on Bay pretty justifiably.

I'm starting to suspect that each of these movies exists in it's own little separate parallel universe. There's probably some reality warping phenomenon going on as well. Still, nowhere near as bad as Highlander.....

Actually that interview doesn't tell us anything many of us haven't figured out years ago.

The script can only do so much.

The editing in the film was pretty bad. Did the rest of the world need a lot of the chinese pandering scenes like the milk scene.

New transformations looked like CGI from 10 year old video game. Other than that, I have no idea.

I don't know, does the rest of the world need a bunch of American flags and Bud light?

Well I do agree in some parts and yes the KSI Transformations were a bit disappointing and they did take the 'Transformium' a bit far. But the CGI and effects weren't exactly terrible. It had a few minor flaws but ILM did an amazing job at the end of the day :)

That's stretching it a bit.. It wasn't THAT bad.

I actually enjoyed the TF lore expressed in this one the best. I look forward to following up on the "Creators" and the whole "Knights", "Dinobots/Legendary Warriors" plots. I think those concepts are the best things going for it.

The human story could have been better. A widower dealing with a teen daughter going on adulthood could have been powerful and deep if intertwined better with the main story and dropping the corny boyfriend stuff but to some extent this movie is mad for the 15-25 year old male, so that probably imposes some limitations.

Where did it go wrong? Well I liked the movie a lot but I can see in the sequel Optimus realizing that freeing the Dinobots into one of the most heavily populated nations on earth... perhaps not his best call. He might have made a mistake there.

I think it poor script. Michael Bay has made some decent films look at Pain and Gain. Mostly because it had good story and script. The past 2 films have been meh quality and rotf was total crap. Kruger worked on those films.

It's a little bit of both. Kruger is responsible for the plot holes and character treatment while Bay decides what to focus on, which we all know what it is. I believe Kruger is more at fault for the past movies having 80% of the script having human scenes and the poor handling of the characters.
