So my wife took our takes to her accountant and we just got back the results. We owe the government $51 and are getting back $27. Then we also have to pay her accountant fee of $150. Now I'm calling bullshit. Last year I was filed under the exact same dependants and got 2 grand back. This year I am married and am getting less? No dice. So where is there a place I can do them myself. I'm pretty sure Ican figure it out and want to double check.
Yeah, the above link and your state's tax website have links to all sorts of places that will do it for free.
I've used turbotax.com for the past two years. Dunno how easy it would be for a guy of your status though.
I had done my taxes on-line through Turbo Tax last year. I am satisfied with the system and received nearly $400 from the Federal tax return and paid $61 for my state return. I am planning to do this again on-line in a couple of weeks.
Haha, yeah getting married screws your taxes. You need to change your exemptions on your w-4 if you ever want to see a refund again.
Turbotax is the way to go. You can do your taxes online and then they charge you only if you decide to file with them ($20 - $40 I think). So if you don't like the results it won't cost you anything.
Keep in mind that changing exemptions in no way changes the amount of tax you'll pay for the year...just when you pay it.
Until I incorporated, I used Quicktax all the time. Really easy to use and walks you through just about any situation you can come across. I'm not sure what the US equivalent would be though.
