snarl turns into a stegosaurus. that has been his thing since g1. but should it still be a thing. a fact that many probably do not know is that stegosaurus did not coexist with T-rex, triceratops or many other of the well known dinos, mainly those of the other dinobots. it actually lived and went extinct millions of years before the cretaceous period, when those other species lived. its iconic look within the species', as well as years of culture references and inaccuracy, have lead to the wrong assumption of when it existed. the inaccuracy could be excused in the g1 cartoon, since the dinobots were just built based on dinosaurs, where as in other series' had them scan the dinosaur modes. i was wondering how long until a desire for scientific accuracy will result in his dino mode being changed. i believe the most fitting new dino for him to turn into would be an ankylosaur, which did live during the late cretaceous . also, with some tweeked features and stylized and proportions to his dino mode, it could easily match his old look, in both transformation and robot mode as well. do other agree or disagree to with this concept?

Pteranodon didn't live alongside T. rex, either. It had been extinct for over 10 million years!

flying dinosaurs are a bit of a different case since there were so many and swapping one species for another isnt as big a deal

I think you're really moving the goalposts here.

A dimetrodon has also been part of a dinobot team, it didn't live alongside T-rex either.

I never see old VW Beetles and formula racing cars on the road together either.

You know, Beast Wars makes the mistake of putting living and extinct animals together with outsized arthropods! How careless!

Shall we talk about vehicle scale issues in combiners too?

Slight correction, pteranodon and other related animals were a different class of reptile. The only true flying dinosaurs are birds.

Ultimately, the main audience focus for these shows are kids. Most are not going to pick a part stuff like adults watching it would. When I was a kid back during Beast Wars, I never once questioned why Waspinator's alt mode was so much larger than an actual wasp. I was just too focus in seeing the adventures of my favorite characters before school.

Change Swoop to an end-of-the-Cretaceous Pterosaur and you'll get... a weird stork/giraffe whatsit:

You could futz around with the exact species for the other Dinobots, but I don't see much a point. I mean, I think it'd be neat if there were sub-teams with a very specific time/place-accurate theme, but the main guys are meant to be the popular Mesozoic icons. Making sure they all coexisted just isn't a priority.

If realism were to strike then when do the Dinobots change to vehicular alt modes? Because dinosaurs did not co-exist with cars. I rest my case and let you do the math.

Haven't you ever heard of fossil fuels? Your car is running on dinosaurs right now.

I wouldn't mind it Snarl was changed into a centrosaurus.

I keep thinking if they do make dinobots that they're going to have to have mold brothers, and snarl and slag would be the obvious choice.

All the inaccuracies that G1 threw at you and THAT'S the one that sticks?

Well then prepare to have your mind blown...

There never was, or has been a nation named Carbombya.

    I know right??

CHUGs usually have better dino modes. Not a huge fan of the dinobots in the first place, I find them irritating.

For G1 stuff, the retro eighties dino modes are completely fine, and I would oppose changing them.

doesn't matter. they're not trying to disguise themselves as heing from the same era. both dinosaurs once existed to draw inspiration from to base their alternate mode on. what would be wrong is if actual dinosaurs were to shown to coexist simultaneously, except for on Dinobot Island and The Savage Land.

When? I don't believe they actually scanned living dinosaurs in any continuity, except for in Marvel which had The Savage Land.

All they have to do is follow the G1 cartoon, and have them be based on dino remains, rather than living ones, which is what IDW did.

Pterosaurs aren't flying dinosaurs. Flying dinosaurs are small, covered in feathers, and we call a lot of them 'birds'

I only support the idea because Ankylosaur has been my favorite since I was a toddler.

The TF franchise clearly does not care about realism. Especially when Beast Wars had characters turn into things like dinosaurs and gorillas in the same teams.
