SPOILER ALERT in episode 26 (which we have yet to fully see) we saw a clip of commander airachnid giving an order to leave earth but soundwave acts like a total bad ass and puts her in her place and they remain orbiting earth. that was because soundwave knew megatron was still alive and would not abandon his master but in the event of megatron actual gone for good would airachnid truly be lord (or in this case lady) of all decepticons? or would soundwave or some other decepticon take her out of the picture and put them self as ruler? would soundwave even try to take command? he never did when starscream was in charge.

The Decepticon hierarchy isn't well established...

 

This is a different continuity but in G1 Starscream fought his way to be leader, thus proving why he was 2nd in command in the first place. And that fight included the Constructicons and Soundwave.

 

You mean the scene were he mostly waited for everyone else to beat the scrap out of one another and swooped in when he was, undoubtedly, the strongest for lack of effort?

I love Starscream, but let's not kid ourselves - he won that by being wise with his cowardice.  

 

When Megatron is gone, Megatron is in charge, via Soundwave.

Everybody tends to be very afraid of Soundwave. And I think there is a good reason behind it......

 

Soundwave would kill Airachnid if Megatron really was gone for good. If she hadn't surrendered while previously getting her ass handed to her, he probably would've killed her right then and there.

 

Definitely Soundwave, even if it is behind the scenes. After all, he is one of the very first followers of Megatron, as well as the only gladiator who had come close to beating him before the war. Add that to the fact that Soundwave knows everything about everyone, and could very easily bury anyone he doesn't like under every robo-skeleton in their closet.

 

I think what Megs does is that he assigns a "second in command" just go give basic orders to the Decepticons, but if they go too far and try to betray him (they're the bad guys after all; they all think they're more powerful than each other) Soundwave steps in and is just like NOPE.

In one of the earlier episodes they even had to convince Soundwave to kill Megatron while he was in a coma otherwise they wouldn't do it. Soundwave is only second in command when he needs to be.

 

Maybe. We didn't really see the fight. But, he DID win none the less and that's all that matters.

But, that is totally different than Prime Starscream. Soundwave seems to be in position to take over in Prime as Starscream was in G1.

Even in the episode 'Sick Mind', Starscream and Knockout still had to convince Soundwave to take away Megatron's life support. Soundwave may not be the one shouting orders, but he's definitely of influence.

Soundwave is like a quiet business partner. He steps in ever once in a while to keep things in order, and steps back into the shadows when the "master" comes back.

 

Does anyone imagine a talk between Soundwave and Bumblebee, with Raf making the translation to the rest?

 

Second in command was Starscream. Soundwave is simply Megatron's strongest supporter. As long as Megatron lives, Soundwave enforces his rule, but when he thought Megatron was dead, he was Starscream's tool.

 

Who's in charge?

Whoever he says is in charge IS in charge; however, should the person try to do what Airachnid did or what Starscream had done, there will be hell to pay.

Soundwave is not a commander (yet), and I don't think he desires to be one, save for his little minions. Soundwave is an enforcer of Megatron’s decrees. He can do more for Megatron by being his eyes and ears while he’s away than by commanding troops to do this or that.

We should really take notice of Soundwave’s action after he sternly reprimanded Airachnid. He did not take command from her. He went back to his post. Megatron had placed her in charge until his return, and so that was how it was to be. He made sure that Airachnid followed Megatron’s command, to command until he returns—there is no leaving him to die.

Who should succeed Megatron should he meet his end I think would be a better question, though I think movie Megatron said it best when he said: Even in death, there is no command but MINE! On that note, should Soundwave be that Decepticon, I will say he will be in command, as he will continue Megatron’s policies as they were envisioned.

 

If Megs gone, just let Decepticons get messy & Autobots win the battle,LOL
