I was just there as I was stopping by Gamestop to ask whether or not they were gonna do a midnight launch for Brawl (they have 425 preorders :| ), and they had a bunch of newly packaged TF: Universe toys. They were new to me anyway; it was a bunch of repackaged Energon figures: Sharkticon, Barricade, Steamhammer, and Storm Jet. In addition, they had a bunch of repackaged Cybertron Scout figures.

When did they start having these? Last I was in KB was probably around November, and they had nothing, not even Movie toys.

Ah well, as long as they have them, how are those Energon molds? I bought Sharkticon after heavy recommendations, along with the Cybertron Scout Brakedown, but after that I'm sure if I should just buy all the Energon figures or not.

I saw those toys at the Plaza Bonita Mall KB last week. I didn't bite on anything, but it was kinda weird seeing those molds there.

I know Dollar stores have Energon and Cybertron Scouts in Universe packages for $5, and some "new" figures hit the stores not too long ago. How much are the figures in KB?

Micromaster Superion was the last thing I bought from KB. I haven't been to a KB store in a long time.

    Brakedown is kinda lame though...

I recieved one free from the purchase of a Cybertron Prime.

For a Scout, Brakedown is pretty nice. Love the alt mold.

    It was 6.99 though.

Funnily enough, the Energon molds were only 8.99 though, so it was a decent enough deal to bite on.

Yea the Kay-bee's out here has them, (All three Energon Combiner leaders)
Im hoping to find the Blue A-10 for superion Maximus as the one i have is missing the front landing gear.

Family dollar carries the Energon/Cybertron Basics under the Universe line.

Is there anywhere else that sells the Energon Basics? No Family Dollars in SoCal. :(

If they're available anywhere else, I might as well try to build one of the Maximus'.

Good luck. The windrazors were plentiful here 2 months ago but have been cleaned out since then. I've not been able to track down any of the other ones. A contact in the UK said there were a bunch of combiners available before christmas but it's gone now too.

KB toys in Tucson has had those for quite a while. they started with snow cat and other lame molds that were shelf warmers. last october they had them along with some clearance reissue sideswipes.
should have grabbed a sideswipe...now they are all gone :(

I have seen the Universe types at Big Lots and Family Dollar. Not too surprised they would show up at KB too.

I must have seen Universe figures begin to appear on the shelves at various KB Toys around the summer, but that includes a KB Toy Liquidators, and those places work a bit differently than your standard mall KB.

In regards to these Universe versions of Energon and Cybertron toys, aside from the Universe packaging, is there any way of distinguishing whether the toy is a Cybertron version of say Backstop or are the markings identical?

Everything else about them appears identical. The instructions might be branded as Universe, but that's about it.
