I know this might sound lame but in TFTM Wheeljack dies, but he doesnt turn gray nor does Brawn and Windcharger. But that's not my question my question is if Wheeljack dies in the movie and i know Japan get's it later why is he still alive in the Transformers with Perceptor?? is that the original Perceptor??
Which Transformers is he till alive in? He shows up in the Japanese continuity, but, come on, Japanese continuity. Much as I like the guy, I find no issue with being under the impression that he dead.
Japan didn't get the Animated movie the same time we did. So when their cartoon series continued (Headmasters I think? Not too familiar with the order they appeared in) Wheeljack, Prowl, etc. were still alive.
If Prowl, Prime, Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Hound, Jazz were still alive that mean Ratchet, Brawn and Ironhie were still alive aswell as Trailbreaker no??
Victory I know Wheeljack made an appearance when Jinrai was going for his transplant to become Victory Leo. Prowl makes an appearance in the first episode of Headmasters but I don't think is seen again. I think this is because the movie was not set in japan just yet....not until 1990 wasn't it?
Yes it is the original Perceptor, and Japan wouldn't get TFTM until 1989 - by which point we'd already had Headmasters (1987), Masterforce (1988) and Victory (1989). Its probably best to think of the Japanese stuff as a branch continuity, and yes the discrepancy between G1 characters cropping up alive in those shows is because they didn't know who got killed in the movie. There are so many inconcsistancies and blatant errors in the original cartoon that you'd go mad trying to reconcile it all. The Constructicons having two origins and up to eight members, Hotspot appearing in the same scene as Defensor, etc etc. Transformers was a cheaply produced TV show and prone to allsorts of cock ups. But it was made at such a breakneck pace that its not suprising these glaring errors are there for all to see, but what are you gonna do?
To simplify it down for you - the movie didn't reach Japan until 1989, so the people creating the cartoons in Japan didn't actually *realise* that Wheeljack had died in the movie. The same thing happened with Prowl, who appears in a few early episodes of "The Headmasters". The story of the "Binaltech" toyline tried to explain this by introducing the "Genetronic Translink System", a mechanism that allowed a Transformer's spark to be removed from their body and placed in subspace, from where they could control MULTIPLE bodies. This would explain how there could still be dead Prowl and Wheeljack bodies lying around, but the characters could still be alive - it was just another body they were controlling.
The answer is to not read too much into it. They reused the animation model without checking to see if the character was dead or not. Really with by that point 150+ episodes to go through, would you want to go to that kind of effort for a single-use throwaway cameo?
Although it's a well-known topic, I have to say this may be the most concise, eloquent quote I have ever seen on the subject. I just had to comment.
All i can say is that it took Megatron's fusion cannon to the skull to take out Ironhide. so my theory is, the japanese had TONNES of wiggle room to believe Ironhide couldn't die. (and hey, did ya see the crappy guns that took out the other Ark crew besides Megatron? sad, sad, sad.)
Maybe that was Wheeljack's twin, Slicer before he defected to the Decepticons. Not a fan anyway. To me, the only good Wheeljack is a dead Wheeljack. Sorry but I always despised him.
