This is hard, More Than Meets the Eye has made me love too many characters.

Shockwave. Because it's only logical.
Grimlock. Because him, Grimlock, badass.
Swerve. Because who doesn't love this chatterbot?
Whirl. Because he's simultaneously hilariously unhinged and tragic.
Ratchet. Because he is hard as nails.

4. Skyfire
5. Silverbolt and Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime (tied)

Honorary Mentions: Jazz, Cyclonus, Soundwave, Grimlock, Swoop, and Kup. Possibly Shockwave, Ratchet, and Scorponok as well if I'm also going by the comics from Marvel since this list is obviously based on the cartoon series itself.

If we're talking G1 media excluding the new idw stuff, then it would have to be:

1) Sunstreaker, not that he did too much in G1 mind.
2) Ultra Magnus, his epic multi-comic fight with Galvatron was legendary.
3) Flame, Autobot nutcase extraordinaire.
4) Cloudburst. Honestly. Darn Highbrows' epic failure.
5) Soundwave.

Honourable mentions to Grimlock, Scorponok and Trypticon.

Marvel Comics

Rodimus Prime, the UK comics did a sterling job with him.

Ultra Magnus, as they did with him too!

Dinobots, again the UK comics did a sterling job with them, from their encounter with Guardian, the Predacons, In the National Interest, and once Furman took over turned their group into Grimlocks own private army (witness their single handedly saving the Autobots asses after being abandoned by the Decepticons right at the end of the comics).

Starscream, never better then in the comics.

Metroplex, sure he only had one appearance... but what an appearance!

Toys (from when I was a kid)

Powermaster Optimus Prime, oddly I favour this guy over the G1 original. He was just so much fun. I never owned him myself though, he was my cousins.

Targetmaster Hot Rod, love the Hot Rod toy anyway, but adding his little transforming gun? Heaven.

Metroplex, again I never owned him as a kid, he was my best friends Metroplex, we had a lot of fun with that guy.

Doubledealer, utterly superb toy. Three wildly varying modes and a brilliant use of the Powermaster engines.

Wheelie, my first ever TF, so he sneaks in there.
