I wouldn't mind seeing Megatron as the main villian for once, and not being sidelined by another character.

 

Personally I'd be okay with Megatron not not being the direct main villain, but only if its clear the main villain is working directly under Megatron's orders

 

The Decepticons in the Bumblebee movie. Although it was never directly stated that they were working under Megatron’s orders so I guess that one doesn’t technically count.

 

Well, the implication was Megatron at least has to be acknowledged as existing.

 

Assuming they keep Megatron's backstory being Spartacus with the serial numbers filed off, I think the logical step for the Megatron we all sort of know and love should be "What if General Patton, but evil?". Capable, charismatic, but also cunning and battle hardened.

The former leader of the Decepticons deposed eons ago by Shockwave. Everyone assumed Megatron was dead, but he was merely biding his time to retake control of the Decepticons. In a twist, Starscream is Megatron's ultra-loyalist guy on the inside as opposed to the more self-serving Soundwave.

 

Not a bad take at all. And we’d still have a treacherous Starscream since he’d be betraying Shockwave in the process of being loyal to Megs.

I don’t care if it’s Welker or Kaye voicing him, so long as he’s still a cunning b^$+^rd worthy of being both Optimus Prime’s mortal adversary and the TOP dog of the ‘Cons instead of just another b|+ch.

BTW yes, I know the above robot mode was designed for Tank Megatron back in ROTF…again, screw it; toss in a new Cybertronian tank mode and make him a Triple-Changer.

 

I would say in both Bumblebee and ROTB he is still under Hoover Dam

 

when ROTB gets a sequel and if the Terrorcons are working for Unicron who is the main threat of the trilogy according to the leaks, i think in the sequel Optimus will have no choice but to team up with Megatron.

 

Oh, when Optimus Prime teams up with Megatron, it's all "desperate times call for desperate measures". But when Sentinel Prime teams up with Megatron, suddenly he's a traitor who gets double-tapped in the back of the head!

That's why he wasn't in Bumblebee, right?

 

Either that or he’s on Cybertron. Just depends on how far they lean into the reboot angle.

 

He wasn't in Bumblebee because it original was going to be a prequel. There is no reason he is missing yet, could have been anything. People have to remember the Decepticons "won" they now have Cybertron to themselves Autobots retreated and the Cons sent out hunters to clean them up. Once Cybertron starts "dying" and the Cons need to work out a new source of energy we'll seem them as the main villains again, with Megatron in toe.

Honestly, I kinda love the whole "Megatron frozen under Hoover Dam" premise from the first movie. Obviously, there's a downside in that Megatron doesn't get a lot of screen time because, well, he's fucking frozen but I think that's genuinely a fun premise. In hindsight, I feel like people would've been more receptive to that idea if Megatron was more of a threat and an actually interesting character in the later movies.

That said, I don't really see a purpose in retreading it for the new continuity, provided that this is a reboot; it's just kinda unnecessary now, and I feel like it'll only lead to more confusion. Plus, I think that, between Bumblebee and RotB, there's already way too much overlap between these movies and the Bay movies, and so I'd like something new with Megatron.
