That's not Nickelodeon, that's Warner Brothers... Though I think it was in Nick for a little bit back in the 90's but it didn't stay there for very long.

It's my top 5 and it aired on nick so i'm keeping it in the list.

Didn't stay long? It lasted from the mid 80s into the late 90s and did so well they had a nick at nite show as well! (Edit--It was on from 1988 to 1999! They even did a three hour block every monday at one point!)

Looney Toons originally aired on Nick, if I recall correctly. You know, before Cartoon Network. Oh, and a little bit on ABC, too.

11 years? I only remember it airing on nick for a few months before being moved to kids WB.

To be fair... I was 2 in 88... no memory of te 80's at all. And the 90's is a big dissociative blur.

My Life as a Teenage Robot, if only because the creator is genuinely cool and the art style is very unique.

A shame the show is pretty much blacklisted by Nickelodeon because the Rule 34 community fucked up the show's image....
I mean...most of the shit I see pop up on YouTube and Google is rape memes with XJ9. -_-

How does fan art get a cartoon black listed? And by that logic EVERYTHING should be black listed because Rule 34 literally translates to "If it exists, there's porn of it" Literally every cartoon ever can be found on there and every cartoon they ever make in the future will eventually end up on there too.

I've tested it just because I wanted to see if that was a joke or not. I've yet to search for anything that didn't exist... unless it's a newly released cartoon series... but even then usually after one or two seasons Rule 34 is full of porn of it. So yeah the rule "If it exists, there's porn of it" is not just a funny joke, it's actually true.

Whenever I see this thread on the forum mainpage, it gets truncated to "What's your favourite Nickel..." and my brain auto-fills "...back song", and I'm like "why would you set yourself up for such ridicule, OP?" And then I go "...oh".

For the record, I think the absolute disgust over the band is an overdone meme. There's nothing special about them, but nothing offensive either. And my answer to the question that nobody asked other than my own addled brain is "If Today was Your Last Day".

As far as the actual thread question goes, for me, it automatically defaults to Avatar/Legend of Korra. I might even have to give the edge to Korra, just for its willingness to be daring and challenging, even if the production turned out more rough-edged and flawed as a result.

Otherwise, Nickelodeon was never really my cup of tea. The zanier art style of most of its cartoons never clicked with me, and neither did its absurdist humour, when I was in that age range. I suppose I did wind up watching a decent amount of Ah! Real Monsters! as a kid, but I remember literally nothing about it.

I remember that show enough to think Monsters University was ripping it off. Not so much Monsters Inc. Specifically Monsters University because they're both about monsters learning how to scare humans.

Pre-movie Spongebob shaped 100% of my sense of humor. What a fantastic show.

Nah dude. Especially if it's a lesser-known work or character, Rule 34 can really damage it's image. The Modifyers, Erin from Essurance, Minerva Mink, the list goes on.

Nickelodeon did try to give MLaaTR more attention around 2017 or 2018 by putting the main character in promotional material and on games on their site...then the Z0NE memes dropped and now they're back to ignoring the show for the most part. They won't even put XJ9 in any more games or make a Funko pop, which have done nostalgically for Zim and Danny Phantom (who were equally acknowledged in 2017/2018).

And yeah it's everywhere. Doesn't mean I have to tolerate it.
Hell, even one of the top image results for "MLaaTR" is a cover to a GumRoad comic where XJ9 is kept as a sex slave and raped brutally by some fat old dude. (Haven't read it, but I looked up the artist and seen him detail it...) So don't pull that "Well, you just need to get over it" on me dude lol.

First of all... WTF is that quote? That's not even remotely close to anything I ever actually said. You literally just wrote your own dialog and put my name on it. Screw you.

Second of all, what the hell are you even talking about? "The Modifyers, Erin from Essurance, Minerva Mink, the list goes on? What list, I have no clue what the hell any of those things even are.

Again... I never even freaking said that or anything even remotely like that. I'm not by any means defending Rule 34. I'm simply saying it's a dumb reason for a network not to acknowledge a show's existence anymore when literally every cartoon that network, and EVERYNETWORK has ever created is also on Rule 34.

If Rule 34 is the only reason My Life as a Teenage Robot got cancelled then EVERY NICKTOON would have to be cancelled for the exact same reason. It's all Rule 34. You don't have to get over it, but it's a stupid double standard for one show to cancelled for that reason while other shows are still running. SpongeBob SquarePants is also on Rule 34 and there's far more fan art from that series than My Life as a Teenage Robot... because SpongeBob gets far more exposure, more people know who that is. Is Nickelodeon black listing SpongeBob because of it? Nope. So why Blacklist My Life as a Teenage Robot?

It would make more sense to issue an law suit on the artists using their characters in adult material otherwise they have to blacklist every show they've ever made and stop making cartoons all together. The only way they could really single out that show because of Rule 34 is if one of the artists from the actual show was creating the artwork on Rule 34. But as far as I know that's all fan art, nothing from actual Nick employees releasing adult material of their own characters. That would be damaging for their image if they were the ones releasing the art work, but as long as it's only fan art that they have no control over there's no reason for them to ever cancel a cartoon over it.

I very much doubt Rule 34 had anything to do with the show being cancelled... unless again it was Nickelodeon employees who were creating the adult artwork... It's more likely the show was cancelled due to low ratings... or given Nickelodeon's track record of cancelling popular shows just cause some executive doesn't like the show... that... I don't think they're ever aware that Rule 34 exists.

They're characters/mascots that got retired because they got too heavily associated with porn.

When you're operating an insurance company but Google keeps turning up cartoon sex pictures instead, you've got a problem.

But that's literally EVERY CHARACTER EVER!!! And also... Google won't turn up any cartoon sex pictures unless you have the safe search turned off, you spell something wrong, and/or you're intentionally looking for it.

I found Star Trek porn on accident once because I typed in Star Track. It's always bad when your spelling sucks and you're doing an internet search.

There's a difference between the porn being a fringe element, and the porn actually taking over all awareness of your brand.

Explain cause I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

Oh and Nickelodeon also owns Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles now, a brand which has existed in porn LONG before they ever bought the rights to it... because a lot of people are weirdly attracted to April's yellow jump suit for some reason... I didn't even need to look that one up to know that existed. I've known several people who admitted that April was their first cartoon crush... and there's also videos on YouTube that question how the Turtles have sex with her cause real life turtle biology doesn't make sense with human anatomy... and why would that even be a question on anyone's mind to ask if there wasn't already porn of that very thing happening? Also there's a real life porn star who goes by the name "April O'Neil" I don't know what her real name is, I assume that's not a coincidence and she purposely chose that as her porn name... so yeah... April has been a sex symbol in the porn industry long before Nickelodeon acquired the rights. Is that not "taking over all awareness of your brand"?

Also in Nickelodeon seems to not only be aware of April's status as a sex icon but have actually purposely used that fact to sell movie tickets. Megan Fox even wore the original yellow jump suit for a scene that was sexualized as much as they could get away with and still have a PG13 rating... and that scene was featured predominantly in all of the trailers. It was a nod to the fans to have that yellow jump suit in there but the use of Baywatch style sexy slow motion kinda reveals that they know the only fans who care about that are the ones with the weird sexual fetish.

Personally I always thought it was kinda of dumb... and I don't see the sexual appeal of an outfit that covers her entire body... I mean the movie kinda made it more sexy by having the zipper down far enough to show some cleavage but in the original cartoon where the weird jump suit fetish started... it shows NOTHING... Frankly it's very unflattering and the original films make her look a lot more attractive by just having her dress in a way that makes sense. Still don't see her as being sexualized in the way that Megan Fox was but she at least was dressed nicer like an actual person instead of the frumpy yellow jump suit that only seems to exist in cartoons... or made specifically to reference a cartoon.

I don't understand why it's such a sexual thing but it is and everyone knows it including the people at Nickelodeon who understand that sex sells and were intentionally using that fact to advertise the movie.
