In many long running series, there might be many goofy moments simply accepted as fact. Even super serious series have this. Canonicity, the reason Deadpool doesn't use his teleporter anymore is I quote: "It made things too easy!" He hasn't used it since the 90's and briefly throughout the 2000's. Reiko in Mortal Kombat 4 was originally believed to be Shao Kahn, but it was confirmed in Mortal Kombat: Deception, he isn't Shao Kahn, but simply enjoys wearing his helmet and pretending he is. Even small things like how Sonic's inability to swim is constantly referenced, and possibly has a fear to water.

What TF stories have silly moments that writers went with, and fans aren't bothered by?

Can the IDW continuity be considered a dark comedy?

Ah, yes, the Butterfly Effect, the Chaos Theory, call it what you will, the idea of a curly straw starting a string of events that leads to a devastating war is ironic and hilarious.

Water being the miracle cure to Scraplets in the Marvel comic series, a substance that is considered rare to the point of being the stuff of legend on Cybertron.
    Water.jpg

One of the simplest chemical compounds, a combination of hydrogen and oxygen.

This despite everyone seemingly being perfectly familiar with water in the very first issue of the same series.

    Let's see ...

Unicron being built by a space monkey. Everything in Call of the Primitives, really.

The Enigma of Combination. What could be achieved with some engineering knowledge in G1 somehow required a mystical doodad in IDW. One that could turn a bunch of random `bots into a combiner team by zapping them ...

I'd call it, as Galvatron would say, a bad comedy.

The space monkey is more believable than a magical artifact that can turn unrelated bots into a combiner, but that's just me .

I don’t recall any Significant or particular mention of water in the first issue.......Perhaps you are confusing the first episode of the cartoon?

also,Based on the pick you posted, it seems it was the New throttlebots that treated water like legend, maybe in the 4 million years since the ark launched water became Almost nonexistent on cybertron

Actually it was Ratbat who described water as a substance so rare, it's very existence was suspect.

Guess it was the last straw...

During the Autobots' big introdump, Bumblebee explicitly pointed out that according to the Ark, Earth was full of water, and he loved a good swim.

The fact that the 2005 IDW continuity exists just makes me laugh.

Well, the principle of Occam's razor suggests that, when faced with a contradiction, you should always look for the most simple and straightforward explanation first.

    The Throttlebots are incredibly thick.

Oh, how I hated that. All through, I thought the "Enigma of Combination" referred to some long lost knowledge that they were trying to recover, and it turned out to be, as you put it, a mystical doodad. Instead of the combiners being specialised teams in limited supply, they could be created from any random transformers with no real effort. It was like walking around town asking random people if they want to join the S.A.S. and just handing a rifle to anyone that said "yes".

not that I have anything per se against mystical doodad macguffins, but The Enigma of Combination is the least necessary mystical doodad of them all.

The Matrix of Leadership basically becoming to Hot Rod what The Sword of Power was to Prince Adam was interesting if a little silly.

When it comes to the Enigma of Combination, I see it more as the solution to perfectly combine minds rather than bodies. Anyone could alter Cybertronians to make them physically combine, but the Enigma is more of a program that links the minds of each component. If used without altering their bodies to physically combine, they become one mind controlling several bodies.
