Different releases in different packaging. The above one is more recent and should therefore be easier to find.
Then you'd be wrong. As REDLINE said, the Decepticon symbols are printed rather than stickers (as is the case with Encore OP's shoulder 'Bot symbols).
Hmmm... I have the 22 reissue... I remember it being my first non-minobot TF after losing my G2 Sideswipe when I was little... it was so rad to have snagged it right before the whole reissue craze started. It's an add fig tho... the shoulders on the 22 release are super loose on the transformation joint (side to side swing, not up and down). They don't have any friction at all... the black connector part has a whole mess of free slop space to wiggle around. I've got a reissue Dirge (not sure Has or Tak) that has nice tight shoulders...
I have the same figure and he has the same issue with the loose joint(s) there. Shame since it is my first G1 Screamer...
The obvious packaging differences: -TakaraTomy logo in upper-right corner of Encore SS. -White rectangle with 3 Japanese characters on lower right corner of D-22 SS. -Transformers Encore logo in upper-left corner of Encore SS. -Numbering differences: Encore-04 vs. D-22 -Color scheme is more subdued on Encore SS. -Text box on bottom is much larger on Encore SS. -Japanese "Transformers" logo much larger on Encore SS. -Upper left section of cut-out area different shape on Encore SS. Differences in figure itself: -Tampographed detailing on Encore SS vs. stickers on D-22 SS. -Yellow nosecone on Encore SS vs. grey on D-22 SS. -Joints much tighter on Encore SS. -Reports remain of slight differences in plastic color, although I am uncertain. Note that Commemorative Series Starscream and TFC-07 Starscream also exist, and include unique modifications to the mold in each instance.
I know the original had problems with the sholders flopping all over the place. The later Hasbro reissue fixed that so hopefully the Encore has the fix. Someone that bought one can tell you for sure.
