So I think this seller might be trying to sell one of the new bootleg KO Gnaws as a vintage MISB. I think this because the one he's selling has a sticker over the art on the front of the box that I know one of the two versions of the new KO repro has. Here's the guy selling as vintage: http://cgi.ebay.ca/vintage-Transfor...oryZ4694QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Here's one of the KO versions with the same sticker: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Transformers-G1-...oryZ4696QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem So is the KO with the sticker trying to copy some vintage version or is seller #1 scamming and has beaten up a new KO box and selling as vintage?
But the second one with the sticker is definitely a repro/ko/bootleg. I read in another seller's auctions who posts 'versions' of each ko release (changes in what's included, errors in 1st runs) who explained that there are already 2 versions of the new Gnaw KO, one without the sticker and one with. So there was a vintage Japanese mail-in version that was the American box with the sticker stuck on it then?
first one isnt a ko, look at the colors on the box, also look at the tape(as far as I know, anglo doesnt sell ko's), the second one is and looks the part. as for the sticker, i have no idea why they did that.
Yeah the 1st one doesn't look like a new copy/ko, I just never knew about a vintage one having the sticker and then saw it knowing that the one version of the new ko had the same sticker...so that was the basis of my posting this.
yeah, like cz said-gnaw never got a jpn. release unless you mailed away for it. and when you got it, you got a little sticker with it.
Ok, good to know, thanks. Learn something new about vintage TFs everyday. I knew of the mail-away thing with Gnaw but not that it came in US packaging with the sticker. That is interesting as to why the ko company is trying to imitate that...because the mail-aways would have been even more rare?
Also, look at how far back from the edge the figure is sitting in the KO box, versus how much closer he is to the left egde in the original. Unless that guy spent a LOT of time and effort roughing up that box, I'm pretty sure that's an original figure.
Yup, I only considered it might not be because I didn't know the details about the sticker, first saw it on the new KO box with it and thought it was something new only on the kos. cz and m ra cleared that up though.
No worries, just throwing my .02 in, since I can't seem to leave this place when I've got nothing else to do
If you look at the vintage one you will see the back of the bubble covers almost the entire back of the insert. The ko one only covers about 1/2 inch around the figure. This is typical of the KO and with the first run of Swoop fell off during shipping. Many KO Swoop's have bubbles that have fallen off the backing. As for the sticker, as was said before, that was probably the only boxed version they could find at the time.
I still don't see why they would bother making a KO of Gnaw. There was very little demand for the figure from the market.
