I know I'm not the only one who loves the fuchsia Autobot Cavalier...but the toys for this character seem to be pretty hit or miss. I have a good assortment of the Hot Rod/Hot Rodimus figures but I'm curious as to which you guys think is the best one, from official or non-official sources.

Are there any on the horizon that you're looking forward to?

IMO there's only 3 that are worth getting. Everything else is pure trash.

    (In no particular order)

    Masterpiece MP-28 Hot Rodimus
    Titans Return
    G1

The OG MP at least looked good, if fraught with QC.

otherwise as a big fan of the character, nothing else quite hits the mark:
G1 is pudgy and lacks articulation (obviously) ~ i wasn't even a fan as a kid, MP 2.0 has that awful slab of plywood chest, TR has the Monkey arms, too-low wing, sunken abs and narrow torso, Classics is a tad small, doesn't have the greatest head sculpt, has the puny twin blasters and the huge engine block on the chest obscuring his face and Animated, well, has the Animated aesthetic, which is just the worst.

I do look forward to seeing what Takara does with the deco on the Legends version of the TR figure: he's probably the closest ~ if the arms were just about 20% smaller and the torso 10-15% wider and the dang wing was shaped right and sat higher...

This is almost exactly my same list, in the same order. I'd just specify MP as MP-28 and Universe as Henkei, but otherwise, same.

The animated version looks really nice but is a pretty specific design that doesn't match up with G1 Hot Rod, and then I think MP-9 probably looks the best as a standalone.

I really like the TR figure, so you may want to see if Takara gives him a more accurate magenta paint job.

    Masterpiece MP-28 Hot Rodimus
    Titans Return
    Classics
    G1

And honorable mention for Animated Rodimus. I can't place him in order because I don't really like the animated style. But the toy is great for what it is.

I only have three of them so I'd rank them as such...
    Titans Return Deluxe
    Combiner Wars Legends
    Platinum Edition Classics Deluxe

i didn't really consider him, but they actually pulled him off pretty well for what it was, other then the huge miss of not making the axe easily attach the correct way to make the fin.

you know who else is pretty sweet in similar non-main-line kinda way:
Micromaster Hot Rod that comes with Star Convoy. Did a good job capturing the character at a diminutive scale and simplified transformation.

MP28 is definitely my favorite. I don't really understand the criticism this guy gets for his proportions. He nails the look (including the much-maligned arms) and only really suffers from the top of his backpack, though I would love it if his ab joint wasn't floppy. Aside from that, he has the style and the poseability, as well as a great transformation.

Animated is another strong contender, despite the character being just a hi-and-bye. I love the Hawkeye motif, and that he doesn't need to be G-wunny to succeed. IMO, only his broad face holds the figure back. But he's very fun, interesting, and just quality overall.

G1 is fun in his own right, but nowadays feels more like a trophy to me. Just something that sits in the case and let's you bask in its glory.

MP9 has fallen a bit from grace in my eyes. I was lucky enough to get an American version with no real QC issues, but over the years his flaws kinda got to me. The shoulder articulation is bad, the elbows (!!!) and whatever madness went on there, the stupid chest transformation, and the backpack of floppiness, insecurity, and sadness.

And the Classics version is just crap. Not especially or hatefully. But I've gotten rid of all my Classics from that era.

You sir, are truly dancing with the devil!:)

On topic: mp 28, g1, and classics are my top ones. TR Hot Rod is ok imo, but not better than the classics one. My all time favorite tho is the legion size one that came in the DOTM 2 pack of Bumblebee & Soundwave as a bonus figure. Don't know why, just always liked that little guy.

Now i'm gonna run now since i said the classics is better than the TR one. Right behind you T-Hybrid.:D

I always felt like Animated Rodimus is just too unorthodox. The Teen Titans character style doesn't lend itself well to Rodimus at all IMO.
