What's it like having a huge collection if you're the type who likes to keep all the packaging?

I've seen pictures and videos of people with rooms full of shelves of Transformers and think to myself: what do they do if they like to keep everything like I do?

Pay extra in storage costs or waste room elsewhere in the house most likely.

I'm a bit like that - I have storage under my main displays for boxes and a cupboard downstairs, but both are full, so I've actually ended up purging boxes for my TFs and Hot Toys... keeping everything was a nice idea to begin with, but eventually, I just ended up with a cupboard full of boxes, so I decided to just keep certain ones, like MP transformers and show exclusive Hot Toys.

I just went through and tossed probably 75% of the mostly 3rd party boxes I had been saving. Still have 4 sterilite tubs with boxes mostly cause MP dino boxes take up a lot of space. It was starting to take up way too much room to keep all of them.

I've been saving my MP boxes and some from back when Takara was doing their own thing. Our basement flooded this week. My toys are fine, but the water did soak into the boxes holding my boxes. This didn't bother me as much as I would have expected. Maybe because losing things to a flood taught me what's really important in life: Plastic robots.

Usually I just chuck em in my closet. It really isn’t that bad for me because I only have about 8 boxes. Now if your someone who has like, 50 boxes I’d imagine that might look messy....

I think you are wise and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I've regretted getting rid of packaging in the past when it came to reselling; to that end I've been keeping the boxes for stuff that's a little bit rarer, but have no problem ditching the more common packaging. All the Siege stuff gets trashed (even though the artwork is damned good). But Ectotron for instance, yeah, keeping that box for as long as possible.

It's a royal pain in the ass if you ever need to move in a hurry. I did just that back in March and had to toss nearly everything that wasn't MP, Takara Legends, Special Edition, etc, or needed for safe transport(like SS Blackout). I had at least eight big BBTS boxes full of smaller boxes. I kept all instructions, cards and the like. I wish I had cut the fronts from the Titans boxes though.

I save all my third party and masterpiece boxes. Thankfully I mostly collect Iron Factory for 3rd party so that isn't taking up too much space. But other than MP and 3rd Party, it all goes in recycling.

Anyone who still keeps the boxes: do you disassemble and fold up your packages for more efficient storage and if so how hard/time consuming is it?

If you're going to keep the boxes, you'll have to break them down flat (unless you live in a huge house).

I just recycle all of my boxes. The more room I use to store boxes, the less room I have to store actual Transformers, Legos, etc. I'm also not concerned about the resale value as I am not planning on selling anything.

Years ago I used to save all of the boxes... ran outta room fast. Tossing most of them felt so good.

I trash all plastic and keep boxes and cards, store them in big boxes ; that way if I sell them later I still have packaging
