Son of M follows Quicksilver in the aftermath of "House of M".

Decimation is the ongoing story running through all the X-Books (starting with Decimation #1) that deal with the aftermath and fallout of "House of M"

Unless you want to read the X-books, you don't need to worry about House of M. Nothing was affected that doesn't have an X somewhere in the title.

I'd suggest Cable & Deadpool. It's a very fun title.

Cable and Deadpool seconded, and Exiles, if you don't mind playing catch up with about 10 volumes of paperbacks.

New Avengers is definitely worth it too.

What kind of books are you into?

X-Men: Deadly Genesis looks to be awesome from the first issue and is probably gonna be the most important Decimation book, but it stands alone.

The Thing and She-Hulk both just started and look to be a little more light-hearted.

Exiles is excellent, good art and cool story right now ~ Think Sliders in the Marvel U.

Captain America is just freaking incredible right now, but a little slow for some folks taste ~ the first TPB is well worth your $ regardless.

Ultimate Spider-Man has been my favorite book since i got back into reading comics 4-1/2 years ago, incredibly consistint.

Astonishing X-men and New Avengers are both going to tie into Decimation starting in a month or so, so you'll probably want to pick up House of M. Just pick up the main one, all of the tie ins were BS anyway.

New Avengers - A really good superhero team with a variety of personalities
Cable Deadpool - The merc with a mouth and the most serious mutant alive
Captain America - Brubacker did to Cap what Winick did to Batman, but better. And I don't even like cap.
She-Hulk - A good old fashoned FUN comic.
Amazing Spiderman - JMS, nuff said.
Supreme Power - Speaking of JMS...when it relaunches

Good suggestions all around, especially Captain America. Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet, I'll suggest Runaways. Great characterizations, funny dialogue, good mix of teen angst & superheroics.

I second the Runaways. Very Whedonesque.
It's a fun read. Buy the mini digests etc.

I have enjoyed Ultimates more than any other marvel book the last few years. Astonishing xmen and new avengers have also been very good. Uncanny Xmen and Xmen have probably been the most disappointing and overhyped.

Spider-Girl. It's everything you love about old-school Spider-Man, but different enough so it doesn't just feel like a re-hash.

And I'll also toss in my vote for She-Hulk. It's like "Havery Birdman: Atterny at Law" for the MU. Funny stuff.

Sort of veering slightly off topic for a second here...

I've noticed a lot of love on these boards for Ultimate titles. Frankly, none of them every struck me as different enough to warrant picking up. I've always looked at them as "written differently enough to try and entice readers, but not different enough to offend anyone with radical ideas". So to the people who read them I pose the question: How off-base am I here? And what makes the titles so great?
