well I've been into them ever since I can remember starting with G1. Animated and Universe got me back into really buying them, as the 5 or so years before that I only bought maybe 1 or two a year. And now I'm probably not going to stop even though I'm not very interested in movie figs lol

I was 6/7 when I first saw Transformers in a commercial, I thought it was the coolest thing in history. Cars and planes changing into giant robots!!! The concept was beyond everything I ever imagined and yet it was everything I’d ever wanted.

My excitement reached unprecedented levels when the Fun Factory aired More then meets the eye part 1. I was instantly hooked, as were all my brothers, sister and all my peers. Soon afterwards everybody in the neighborhood owned transformers and massive Autobot-Decepticon battles ensued. The cybertronian-conflict dominated toy-sales for years to come and Optimus Prime became our generations older brother, father and ultimate hero.

Nothing has beaten G1 ever since. Although I’m not a G1-purist and I genuinely enjoy other Transformer incarnations, nothing compares with the original enchantment.

1984. I can't remember exactly what it was - the toys, the cartoon, or both - but I was captivated for years and years and years. Sort of outgrew it for a while, then got back into it with Beast Wars (thank you, Magnaboss, Optimus Primal) and I've been with it ever since.

1985 I got Grapple and Thrust for my 9th birthday and for xmas I got Jetfire, Grimlock, Thrust, Cosmo and Astrotrain.

The cartoon aired before school, so I hada good reason to get up in the morning. School was kind of a let down after that.

    1984...
I was in the first grade and TFs were all the rage. a little economy of Transformer swapping developed in our class. Evry boy was into them until 1988 or so then they totaly fell off the map.
I saw the Car Brothers in Target in 2001 and started collecting again at the age of 22. now i have 500 or so of the things and show no signs of stopping.

    1984/85! (11-12 years old)

That Christmas I got tons of transformers! Well to me it was a crapload back then. My dad thought ahead and put all of them on Layaway at K-mart 3-4 mths earlier. They were all sold out at Christmas time of course.

The ones I remembered getting that Christmas morning--

    Optimus Prime
    Grapple
    Prowl
    Hoist
    Soundwave
    Rumble/Ravage
    Astrotrain
    Blitzwing

I think I played with all of them that day, until I fell asleep later that night. Ahhhh, the good ole' days :D

I did like them as a kid in the 80's but not any more than anyone else. I liked the cartoon, had some toys, read the Marvel Comic (got me hooked on comics till this day :p  ) but I wouldn't say I was a HUGE fan,I liked other cartoons more.
So I guess the year I "fell in love with" them was 2001 with RiD. That's when I started visiting websites and collecting and so forth.

In 1998 on a random weekday in Sikeston, Missouri, I bought TM Cheetor and Tarantulas while my parents were on a business trip and was immediately hooked. Beast Wars was my G1, until I saw the episodes dealing with the Ark and the REAL G1. I took one glance at G1 Prime slumped over in his seat and said "I wanna play with THAT!" And I had some random memory of being little in the eighties and watching TFTM with my cousin. Naturally I inquired if he had it, and he loaned it to me. And that began my fascination with Transformers. The awesome toys and the doubly awesome lore and characters.
