no mentions of MS Menasor- at the time the best looking combiner of all time, really put legends on the map.

This. These were the major landmarks.

there was also a Fansproject cliffjumper kit before the magnus armor, but it didn’t have any of the same impact since it was more like a garage kit.

I would add Toyworld`s Constructor to the aforementioned bots, since he was the first "real" MP-scaled combiner.

Ones that stick out to me, in relative order of release:

    1. Dalianjj/Fanstoys MP-01 Trailer
    2. TFC Coronation MP Starscream upgrade kit
    3. Fansproject City Commander trailer
    4. Mastermind Creations Knight Morpher Commander (look up the drama behind that design)
    5. Fansproject Explorer and Munitioner
    6. FT Quakewave
    7. FT Scoria
    8. TFC Hercules
    9. Mastermind Creations Feral Rex
    10. Wei Jiang M01 Commander

I feel like most 3P figures we have today had their foundations set by these figures.

I'm surprised no one mentioned UT Lockdown. Everyone thought post Dotm Bay formers are impossible before its reveal.

I'll mention it. Magic Square Menasor. Shit I'll even go so far as to nominate MS Bruticus too.

They came a couple years later, but I’d have to check what year. Fansprojects Springer was the first full figure that they produced.

it was super cool at the time, but definitely doesn’t hold up since it lacks heels and the plastic feels a bit fragile

that one I regret selling. He was definitely cool.

not sure I’d call him a historically significant release though.

If we were to expand it all, I’d probably add Fansproject Steelcore since it was the first original character and it had a significant impact on the market.

I’d probably also argue that the glacial lord figures are historically significant, since they were the first new g1 style toys from a 3rd party, but the low sales certainly reduce the impact.

iron factory Turret and Manacle were also impactful since it was the first major legends scale figures

    waiting for the repaint. arduously.
menasor was best at the time, devy is better- i feel like the individual bots are better.

not at all significant, just off on a tangent :)

    YouTube (Legacy):
    FT Quakewave
Fansproject protector armor (a peak upgrade kit when before it was just a head and a new gun)
    Mmc feralcons
Mmc Dante (First time a third party figure was directly trying to complete over the official release of a character?)
    TFC Hercules
Iron factory six shot and slammer
Maas Toys bumblebee (for ruining everything forever for anyone who isn't into legends or masterpiece)

Shoutout to the complete failure that was Impossible toys arcee which was the first completely orignal transforming figure with was not an upgrade kit in anyway. Also shoutout to BTS' canceled Overlord which would have clapped the communities cheeks even if it was mid.

You can definitely tell when what people are interested in and/or when they joined the hobby.

MP-01 Trailer, City Commander, FP’s Springer/aerialbot add-on/Bruticus figures. We can get into all the stuff that came after and there are massively important releases among them, but those early ones showed 3P was capable of not only accessories, but full figures and that the market could support them. City Commander blew my freaking mind when it was released and the bruticus figures and extra parts took everything to a whole other level. Tough to imagine how revolutionary they were in today’s world where we have pages and pages of 3P releases.

Yeah, I'd say this plus DX9's Speedoo and Guartinel set. I think IF's Turrets and Manacle set came out first, but this was the first time that a company took full-sized characters and shrank them down to Legends scale. They don't hold up great, but like the rest of the releases you mention they served as the starting point that everyone else built off of.

That is a game samer and it's not even a very good one.

I think FT Shockwave and FT Motormaster were game changers in what we thought was possible for 3PMP

XTB Locke v1 was noteworthy for being one of the worst releases in terms of how bad QC could be

MS Menasor and Newage Seekers put legends on the radar

TE01 provided a cheaper Prime option right before the release of MP-44

I also think UT Lockdown was an insane leap for 3P. Not only did it not have any kibble at all, but it successfully mass shifted a MP scale~ car into a nearly Prime sized bot mode.

Maketoys color verse is an amazing event that shows us how greedy Tfsource can be, releasing overpriced repaints of an outdated mold.

Unique Toys' Peru Kill: the first movie masterpiece and he started the "no backpack" standard

Ocular Max's Assaultus: The first MP all built in combiner

Cang Toys' Thunderking: The first +50 cm combiner that's not a pantsformer. The first one to make use of additional members to avoid combiner kibble. Thorilla's combiner joints are unique!

MMC's Feral Rex: Set a standard at the time...

    some more recent ones imo:

FT Roadking - seemed to me like the start of a shift from trying to somewhat keep engineering simple to a just fuck it we ball do whatever must be done to get from point A to point B

the entire MMC Reformatted Line - first non-G1 based full line of figures (obviously there had been other non-G1 stuff but not to that extent)

UT Peru Kill - showed mostly kibble-free MP Bayformers are actually possible

    Toyworld Constructor - self explanatory

FT Thomas and Metagate Shatter - show triple changers don’t have to make you want to blow your brains out to look great/accurate in all 3 modes

TE-01 - IMO the first 3p product to be on-par or even better than its official MP counterpart

MMC Bruticus - i feel like this also started a trend of other companies attempting (to some extent) to try the whole all-in-one thing

Fans Hobby Monsterbots - imo showed that people absolutely do want some of these C-list post G1 toon characters that companies have started doing more of now
