Come on, let's not bring it down to that level. He knows that. Sometimes, people type too quickly.
the Build A Bear joke never gets old!
We all make typos, dude. (Split made that clear to me once, learned my lesson).
The "nothing is perfect" card doesn't really cover your lack of backing up your posts and just going "no, PT is better, OT fans bad" or whatever.
the ewoks are anything but care bears.
they eat people
they use severed heads as drums
they were going to COOK our heroes alive. AND then eat them.
they are anything but comic relief. they're vicious little creatures who should not be messed with.
and they are more badass than wookies (and ewoks didn't even have laser based weapons like the wookies did)
well the wookies were basically ruined by the holiday special.
I'm not saying the oters are bad, I'm just saying you can't berate the pt just because of jarjar.
Except not a single person in this thread said the PT is awful just because of him. There was much more that made them shitty.
two words buddy, Haden Christensen
although i can, because they're shitty character designs, and racist as can be. WITH no purpose other then to extend the runtime of the film.
to the point where they were written OUT of the franchise. well, until the Clone Wars actually improved them.
maybe if they ate people they'd be better. but they don't. they're just there to make fart jokes in a star wars movie.
yea, the bad of the prequels, starts with the shitty CG.
Not so much this thread, but you even mention pt to someone, they go off about jarjar.
Because he was a problem, and he's the easiest thing to point out in regards to why the PT is shit. I mean, the acting, the villains, the overuse of CG, the wasted character potential, all problems too. But JarJar is just the easiest to single out.
i think the thing about Jar Jar beyond everything else in episode one, is how much he annoyed people.
and it is one thing to have shitty pointless characters. or horrible cg. useless villain characters, and stupid things happen.
it is a thing entirely different to have a character annoy you the whole time he is on screen. because that makes the viewing experience painful to sit through.
i do like some of the things in episode one. i liked queen portman, i liked darth Maul for the little he is actually there, i liked liam neeson.
but for every good thing about episode one, there is horrible cg, pointless scenes, annoying characters, the pod race which goes on far too long, the entire PLOT evolves around that pod race. and little orphan Annie saves the day in his little starship flying it for the first time. somehow.
i guess he's just magic.
Ok ok ok! I give up!
JarJar epitomizes everything that is wrong-headed in the making of the prequel trilogy. Because the character shows how Lucas culled his staff of anyone who might dare to question any of his choices, which makes for a terrible creative environment. You can see it in any of the special features that show his design team meetings. They all treat him like the kid in that Twilight Zone episode, "It's a Good Life." They are all shitscared to contradict him in any way and fawn all over even the most ridiculous choices.
And when JarJar was almost universally hated in Phantom Menace, did Lucas question himself? Did he examine the complaint and give any thought whatsoever to the possibility he might have misjudged? No. He stubbornly dug in his heels as if he could bring the entire world around to his way of thinking through sheer force of will. Because he had become completely unaccustomed to hearing the word, "NO" from anyone. And that was fatal for him and his prequels. It's fatal for any creative type to cut themselves off from legitimate constructive criticism or dissenting opinions.
Rewatched Episode I for the first time since 2002 last year. Hated the distracting amounts of CGI and Jake Lloyd's acting ("Let's try spinning! That's a good trick!" and "Yippee!" stand out the most) more than Jar Jar.
Podracing is still nice to see though, and I'm planning on watching the fan edited versions of the prequels soon.
Star Wars, the original one. But the whole trilogy was good. Kind of a shame they only made those three.
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
There are no options for 4, 5 or 6.
Could not have said it any better, both the kid version of me and the grown-up me are in complete agreement. I mean, you OPEN with Hoth!! That's your opener?!?!
*stupid space wizard.
It's a shame that no one stood up to Uncle George and told him Jar Jar sucked.
