That doesn't actually confirm anything. It ceratainly doesn't say that the sonic was a transformer and it was written out. More likely the GM spokesperson was isinformed or the interviewer misunderstood what he was bieng told. It would not be the first time an article was published that wasn't entirely accurate. Probably one of the two thought like a lot of people here that if it has a prominent role it must to be a Transformer.
Maybe their was a point originally... but as of the finished film, its a continuity error.
Ok you're right. I'm not arguing with you bud.
I still feel it was meant to be a TF at "some point" but was dropped. One thing I think we can agree on is that these movies are just too poorly edited and we really need this franchise to be rebooted sooner than later and more attention needs to be payed to editing and better flow in these movies.
Not continuity error, that's a technical/animation error. Big difference.
I just think it's funny how the rally car was kept secrete and hyped up a bit......then it turns out to be a normal car with 5-7mins screen time then ditched!
They didnt really talk about it because it wasn't anything special. Not because it was a secret.
Its a mix of all 3;
- Continuity error as he appeared in the car after
- Technical error because they didn't have him in the car to begin with
- Animation error because they removed him unnecessarily
Regardless ...it's just really odd.
Like I said, looked for it specifically this third viewing and they went out of the way to show no one was in it.
Wasn't even like there was a glare and you miiiiight mistake it for being empty. Instead, the car pulls up with the window down and even turns a little as it pulls up to show its completely empty.
Weird misdirection if you ask me.
Could have been bent over to see what was going on, was this the scene when he was about to open the door?
I for one was disappointed when it turned out not to be an Autobot. I thought a new character had appeared.
I bet he has one of these...
Exactly the way it pulls up the hill, turns then parks with the window down it is obvious no one is in the car driving. Before it makes that turn from the angle it's at you can't tell if anyone is in it or not, the turn is made deliberate with the window down to show the car is indeed empty. I think it may have been one of the first early scenes they shot where at one point the car was ment to be a tf but for whatever reason it was dropped. Time will tell in the dvd extras.
Yeah, as it's been brought up before, there also seems to be lot of other hints that imply it was intended to be an Autobot. Shane saying something to the effect of "It's like I'm driving better today", the absolutely ridiculous stunt with them driving through a restaurant, etc.
Too bad, they could've had an interesting character, although there was already too many Autobots in the movie, it might've gotten cluttered up, especially considering it felt like Drift and Crosshairs were close to useless.
For me, the inconsistencies started with DOTM. In ROTF, the Arcee twins actually had holographic people riding them. This makes sense, since robots in disguise probably wouldn't want humans to know they were in disguise. In DOTM, Sideswipe is a convertible instead of a coupe. So they show him driving around without a holographic driver in broad daylight. That was a big wtf moment for me in DOTM. Now AOE is continuing this trend.
But at the beginning of rotf no one knew of the transformers so they used the holographic drivers. In dotm their presense was known so presumably that's why sideswipe didn't bother with the holo driver.
After a third viewing yesterday, I've come to the conclusion it was meant to be a transformer and was cut.
Maybe it'll show back up in TF5.
the whole point was to make the audience think a new Autobot was going to be helping them. Because, based on the history of the 1st film, it is what the general audience would expect, right?
Well.....surprise!! It's not an Autobot after all, its his race car driving boyfriend. That's what I believe is the definitive answer.
Doubt it was a transformer and was cut. Otherwise we'd have seen some concept art. It was a red herring, nothing more. That shot was deliberate misdirection which ended up looking like a continuity error.
That's like opening up your brand new PS4 box and having a Turbo Grafx 16 inside.
Cruel and unusual.
