I understand that the new characters needed their time to shine (and they did), but why was Jolt cut? He could have been Executed alongside Wheeljack/Que or with Ironhide. Also, he could have gotten a chance to speak and/or transform on screen. Other than the fact that Revenge of the Fallen was a mess, why was he cut?

I never gave a damn about Jolt but that is a good question. Seems kinda silly to cut him but bring in another blue car who was Q.

Not in the movie, in the production of the movie.

 

Ah, well, it all comes down to Hasbro wanting to sell toys, just like season 2 of G1, where all those new characters just show up.

 

Jolt was added late into production to promote the Chevy Volt in ROTF. That is why Jolt has almost zero presence.

 

I know. But he had potential, since it seems like he was in the early drafts, but got cut then re-attached.

 

G1 is far different from the Movies in that G1 had to use pre-existing designs for their characters, whereas the Movies were free to do whatever.
Plus, Hasbro made a DotM Jolt regardless.

 

I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of the general audience who saw both ROTF and DOTM didn't even remember blink-and-you-miss-him Jolt, let alone notice that he wasn't in the new movie. The only people that seem to ever talk about him or even know his name are forum fans.

Considering they completely blacked out the existence of the Twins - who were essentially THE main bot characters of ROTF - it's not surprising that Jolt also got cut from DOTM. People may hate the Twins, and rightly so, but if any "new" characters had the justification to carry over from ROTF, it was them. More people asked (and still ask) what happened to them than Jolt. Fact.

 

I wonder how much Jolt actually cost to render in ROTF.

 

The question should be more like what was the logic in putting him there to begin with?

Jolt exclusion had nothing to do with Hasbro because Jolt is still part of the toy line regardless of whether he was in the movie or not

 

Jolt is the most overrated Transformer ever.

 

Expensive CGI? I don't know. At least his name was mentioned, and got a pretty decent toy in ROTF, and technically he saved Optimus' life. All in 5 seconds.

 

The logic died with Shockwave.

 

Without Jolt, there would be no magnetic weapon to help Optimus combine with Jetfire.

How could that be since Jolt was never shown in vehicle mode (as far as I remember). Even if he was shown in vehicle mode, it must've been extremely brief and hard to notice.
