I work for a company where the big plotters outnumber the standard size printers. I have on occasion gotten the opportunity to go see some of the latest and greatest machines on the market. During these events, the sales rep will encourage you to bring your files to plot out as an example. Some guys bring giant floor plans of mansions, some bring their most complex engineering specs, and some... bring Transformers comic book covers scanned in.

At the last open house I went to, I had them print out my scanned file of IDW's Transformers #1 (THIS ONE) on mylar (its like plastic paper). I framed it and hung it in my office it was so nice! Although, using the plotter and paper he used, it is literally water proof and I could have hung it outside like a flag!

So we just got a comparable machine here in the office and I need to print... ahem... a few test plots.

What would you print out if you could go up to 44" wide? Post up some ideas for me or just something you wish you could print as a poster.

As I learn the machine I will get an idea of the cost per print. I've got free reign over it as long as I don't cost the company money... so maybe some cheap posters are on the horizon?

Honestly, if I could get a poster-quality print of the Marvel TF #5 cover (Are All Dead), I'd be a happy camper. It's always been my favorite cover, and the painting itself is very well done.

    Nice choice in posters. :)

I have a large format printer at work too. How are you compensating for pixelation?

IF I were to print a poster on it I'd want this, or this, or this.

What can I say? I love Prime. :D

Hmmm, I do think I have that one, too...

Well the only way I've found thus far is to scan it myself. Except the rare high res picture online its the only source I have.

the back of the Box Art from the G1 era, but i have no clue how you would scale them up with out pixelating them into a mess.

Well if I get my hands on an actual box I can scan it and there will be no pixelation at full size. I would bet my last penny that such a high resolution version isn't just sitting on a public web server somewhere...

    But I don't have any G1 boxes. :(

There were a few FoC high res pictures available. Not super high res, but I printed Shockwave to what I consider a usable poster. Definitely has some blocky-ness but you don't see it unless you get 2 or 3 feet away.

Coolio, that'd be fine by me. I'd totally get one made of that if possible.

Well of course it's possible... But quick, cheap, and easy is the concern.

Here is a quick test from a file I got from Google Images. It turned out kind of dark but still nice in my opinion.

I re-scanned the printed page at 600 dpi to demonstrate the blockyness that gets created. But at 40mb it won't attach here and I don't even have a good enough program to resize it.

I dunno, I'd generally try to avoid infringing on someone else's intellectual property and image rights if I was making posters, I'd think.

I'd try to do my own stuff, or at least have original art created for the posters I had made. In terms of what that would be, I dunno, I'm a big fan of blending genres, so maybe Masterforce through the eyes of a Hokusai woodcut, or a Victorian zoological specimen journal version of Beast Wars characters, or something completely abstract in the more recognizable colorschemes of certain character.

That's actually pretty awesome looking, tho not the image I was thinking of lol (I've been on vacation so doing everything on my phone). I uploaded a couple of other pics, not sure how high def they are on my phone tho.

This was the image I was originally thinking, not sure how well it would work tho.

Autobot cast of 84-87 standing on Metroplex in city mode...where Metroplex is literally the border/frame of the poster.

Decepticon cast of 84-87 standing on Trypticon in city mode...where Trypticon is literally the border/frame of the poster.

The 7 seekers plus a bunch of cool colored combo'ed ones around and behind them.

That sure would look blocky at full size. The original source material is less than high res. Is there any post-produced version available at higher quality?

That one shot of Arcee & Airachnid from TFP "Crisscross", when they were on the crane with the moonlight shining behind them! That would ban awesome poster!
