So I've hit a problem that I've never faced before and I'm looking for advice / input / suggestions.

I bought the PCC Aerialbots five-pack yesterday. I had already purchased Huffer and liked him well enough, so when I was out yesterday, I decided to get the Aerialbots so I could try out the PCC gimmicks more fully. I was really unsure about the five-packs to begin with (and there are so many awesome new toys on pegs and shelves now - it's almost too much!), but I didn't want to pass judgment without giving the new line an honest, hands-on try. And I can honestly say that I'm not impressed - bored, even. I fiddled with it, tried adding Mini-Cons, tried my two different commanders, switched the limbs around, etc, etc. I gave it an honest shot and I don't like it. Now, this isn't a review thread. If you like PCC, that's great - whatever floats your boat. But me, I really wish I had spent the $20 + tax on Generations or HftD instead.

I have never returned an opened toy before. I still have the box and the instructions, though I did snip all the ties. But I've never done it and I feel guilty about even thinking about it. I could sell the set, but I'd take a loss.

So what should I do? (Note - I don't have anyone I could give it to...no children in my life, thank goodness.)

You can either sell it to someone on the boards, customize it, or return it. The choice is ultimately yours to make.

You can't return opened merchandise anymore. They'll only allow you to exchange it.

Leave Skyburst by himself, doesn't look too bad, throwback to G2 Cyberjets. Buy Searchlight and combine him with the Aerialbots.

They? Spekkio never specified a store, and several would take it back opened regardless. Especially Walmart.

Personally, I'm not keen on returning items just because I find I don't like them, but can't get too worked up about it given the reports of people seriously abusing the returns process (swappers, people taking a part and returning the rest of the figure, etc). If you need the money or whatever, I can't see anything wrong with returning it.

Another option would be donating the set. Something like Toys for Tots wouldn't take it, since it's opened, but other charities might. Or if you happen to know a kid who might like it or someone with a kid who might like it.

All the big retail stores have a no opened merchandise return policy. So you're probably just coming across really nice or blissfully unaware clerks.

Considering that the PCC Arialbots have pretty bad quality control and are the argueably worst of the PCC thus far (I like mine, but mostly for the limbs) I would advocate returning it as completely as possible (you haven't broken anything right?) and getting something you prefer better. I see a lot of people buying the Arialbots first out of the limb sets and that really is a mistake. The Combaticons set is far and above the Arialbots on their best day. There are plenty of Generations (Drift, Prime) and HftD (Seaspray, Hubcap) who are very much worth the money in place of your Arialbots.

I think everyone is allowed a few returns over the course of their toy hobby and as long as you don't make a habit of it it should be alright.

If you are really against returning it then perhaps you could give it to a friend or child you know.

Edit* : And for the record I've never had, or seen anyone have trouble returning undamaged open merchandise (TF and non TF). Heck, I've seen someone return two half empty cartons of milk just because.

Give it to a kid. I'm sure he'll have a blast with it.

I guess I should have specified a couple of things....

    1. Store: Target. I didn't think to look at their return policy. (I'm not very bright.) I have the receipt here somewhere...crap.

    2. Customize / Kitbash: The issue is that I don't like the gimmick. And I'm not nearly talented enough to make it work better. (Besides, I still have a Classics Mirage -> Dragstrip repaint that I need to finish....)

    3. Donate: Nice idea - but at the risk of sounding like a selfish twit, not likely. Without getting into an enormous level of detail that nobody cares about, I have a limited income, so I buy non-essentials sparingly as little treats to myself. (I donate used stuff when I no longer have need of it, so I'm not a total meanie.)

    4. People advising that I should do whatever I like (or some variation) - well, that isn't very helpful advice. I'm very torn on the ethics here. Maybe I worry too much, but that's just how I am.

    5. I don't know any kids at all. I don't have any young relatives. I avoid kids like the plague, really. That may sound funny coming from a guy whose hobbies include toys and comic books, but I really don't like kids. They tend to be noisy and bothersome. (And for the record, I was never noisy and rarely bothersome in my younger days. Seriously.) The neighbor kids...well, the way they behave sometimes I just want to knock them out with tranquilizer darts.

Return it and have no guilt about it. The whole point of a return policy is to encourage impulse buys.

Unfortunately I'm bad at getting motivated enough to sell stuff these days, so I keep it in a box until I do get motivated.
