I'd favour a satellite truck, (G1 colours of course) but one of the larger ones not a regular-sized vehicle since SW is one of the bigger regular G1 bots and needs to be imposing.

 

I became a big fan of Prime Soundwave, such that not having him be a drone or something bulkier than that (that isn't basically a rehash of his G1 body) is weird to me. The cassettes can be reformatted into personal drones/helicams.

In order for Soundwave to be able to access the widest array of information and be as efficient as possible, he shouldn't be confined to just one form. Similar to his TFA appearance, I'd like to see an iteration of him where he's more of a 'consciousness' who uses his minions (ideally full-sized robots with alternate modes) as surrogates to interact with the physical world, sometimes operating more than one at once.
