We've had two negative, pessimistic, naysayer threads. "Pissmeoff" and "annoy". But, there's a flipside to every coin, right? So... what cheers you up when you're put down by the world, eh? 1) Good music: Nothing like a peaceful song or instrumental to cheer me up. 2) Friendly people: For every asshat and buttmonkey out in that mean nasty place we call our homeplanet, theres a nice person. The polite people. The people who say "Please" and "Thank you" and are courteous to others. The people who, in general, restore a little faith in humanity. 3) Mentos and Mtn. Dew: I could be angry, disillusioned, depressed, mopey. But a few fruit mentos and a cold can of Mtn. Dew, and I'm good as new. ~ I'll add more later... So, speak out folks. And try to think cheery thoughts! (In regards to the thread title, get your minds out of the gutter...)
- coming home to the wife and my daughter - visiting the islands back in the philippines - traveling back to when life was simpler, ie listening to nostalgic music and watching old shows.
Any time spent wth my lovely woman. Going to car boot sales with a pocket full of ready cash and finding something rare for very cheap. But just going and browsing is nice too. When the mail arrives and there's nothing bad in it. Enjoying a really nice meal and yummy drink. Having an awesome kip that leaves me fresh and full of energy. A nice relaxing shower. Listening to a storm, preferably as it hammers down on my conservatory roof. Playing games with my dog. And the bestest thing of all is all those things can and have happened within the span of a single day.
Probably will post more as I think of them, but for a start: - Riding my bicycle into work on a day like today, when the traffic is quiet, it's still dark out, there's a nice breeze and the weather is a little cool, but not cold. - Being alone. I'm not very social and don't like having other people around, so I only relax when I'm on my own. - Depositing money into my personal Roth IRA and seeing the automatic transfers from my pay cheque to my work IRA. Sure, the market sucks right now, but some day that money is going to allow me to retire and have (virtually) complete freedom, so it makes me happy to see the accounts grow. - Enjoying my favorite foods, especially pizza or Cadbury Creme Eggs. - A good shower. - Dusting and rearranging my toys every few months. - Finding a great deal on an item on my "want" list. - Listening to good music.
- good music, especially if it makes me dance - making someone smile - meet friends - great parties - a good meal - when the sun shines and it is warm - Payday when there is money on my bank account again (why is there always so much month left at the end of the money?)
- School - Friends - Family - Good food - All of my necessities and things that I've wanted that I have - Wearing cargo pants, jeans and slacks all year round - Rain - Listening to orchestral music from a videogame or movie - The sense of accomplishment whenever I win a school award for high grades
The secret to happiness is low expectations. You're never disappointed and every once in a while you're pleasantly surprised.
I am consistently amazed with how happy waking up with a sunbeam splashing across my bed, and then closing my eyes and sleeping in even more makes me.
Family The family of cats (headed by the brother/sister duo of Anya and Loki Bear!) Chocolate Rain, especially when Liverpool are playing at home and it's absolutely throwing it down. My mobile and broadband signals disappear when they are, so this is what I like to think of as payback - soaking wet football fans make me very happy. The end of the football season, because I hate football. Taking my socks off. Star Trek.
