I am wanting to get a Laptop for christmas and my parents cant afford a newer expensive one so i was wondering which one you guys thought would be better: the Toshiba 15.6" w/ windows 8 or the new Lenovo ideapad 15.6" w/ windows 8 please let me know what one would be better, i need one that is good for a lot of internet browsing and editing photos and videos, not much of a gamer, thanks in advance for any and all help EDIT: 2 more questions, is windows 7 or 8 better in your opinion and how good are the webcams on these two i showed?
Well, this is just me, but I'd try and convince them to spend (or throw in yourself) the extra $50 and get this one: Lenovo - 15.6" IdeaPad Laptop largely because: 4GB of memory instead of 2GB Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 These two things will make using the laptop ten times simpler.
that was another question i forgot, is windows 7 or 8 better? And does the one you suggested have a better webcam?
Better webcam, couldn't tell you off hand. As for which is better, well, Windows 7 is far better optimized for the non-touch screen environment. Trust me, having to jump through the sort of hoops you jump through with it to get to something as simple as the control panel is pretty annoying. Plus Win7 has been well 'run-in' and has less inherent defects than Win8 does being a new release.
I concur with Gordon's assessment of your options. Don't put too much emphasis on the webcam, they're all pretty terrible.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D w/W7 and I love it...had it a couple of years, no problems whatsoever.
Stick with Win 7, simpler is better in the end. For very little more than what u are looking at, I have seen 4g of memory and 500gb hard drives in laptops. Memory is important and 4g is the least I would recommend for anyone looking for a laptop.
I'm glad unchihabro77 asked this question about laptops. Because I have the feeling my sister will get me one for Christmas. She told me my Christmas gift came from Walmart, then she took it back and went to Sam's Club to get a better one. Now there is nothing at Sam's that I want except a TV or something electronic.
Agreed, 2GB in anything other than a video card these days is just cheap for the sake of being cheap and to be avoided at all costs. I'm of the opinion that if your family are going to shell out for an item like a laptop then it shouldn't be a surprise present; it should be one that you both agree on supplies the best sweet spot of price and performance. Unless of course the relative in question is like MCSE accredited or equally knowledgeable.
We have a Toshiba, Satellite A505 and its been working for years. I'm not trying to sway you into purchasing a desktop but I have one and its great. (It could be even cheaper). I won't get a Windows 8 just yet, stick to Windows 7 your better off. Can you wait maybe after New Year's to buy a laptop they might be cheaper than because the sales are pretty much gone for computers or laptops?
Hey guys, thanks for all the advice, but my actually went and bought me one early without me knowing it so guess what im typing on now a new asus w/ windows8
Stay the hell away from Windows 8. That is all. EDIT: I was gonna tell you to get the Razer Blade but it'll probably be too expensive. Not many can afford that laptop.
Whatever you buy, DON"T buy a dell ( or a cheaper Dell laptop) because of the intergrated chipset/ motherboard. If one componant goes bad, the whole board/ chipset goes bad, and needs replacing
All computers have integrated chipsets. Laptops are just a little riskier because certain components are necessarily integrated that, in a desktop, would be discrete components, i.e. onboard audio, video, and sometimes the CPU itself.
