And, of course, how much? And can you post a pic or two And now I'm done askin' questions. I'm lookin' to find a couple for displayin' the ol' Transformer/Marvel Legends collection, and I just want to know what works best for all of you. And yeah, I know we've talked about this before, but I couldn't find the thread. Thanks in advance, gang! HAVE FUN!!!
I just display my alts (only thing I have out) with other stuff on a regular book shelf with books and things.
I use the basic shelving units from my local walmart. I Have had the wire shelvs for a long time and can't remember where I got them or how much they were. I also made this shelf as an add on to my computer desk for my loose Starscream collection as that is the focus of my collection. Neither was expensive. The shelf unit was around $30 and the DIY computer shelf was about $15 in parts. I'm sure others here have a better setup than mine but I am happy with it given its functionality and cost.
I have the Ikea Billy Bookcase with glass doors... I forgot how much I paid, but the glass doors ended up being the most expensive part!!! Which I guess is a no brainer... http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15561&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=16606&langId=-1&parentCats=15561*15639 I think that's the price for two bookcases with glass doors cuz I would NOT have bought it if it were that expensive... I got it in the birch(?) color... It's nice!!!
I've actually got white "garage shelf" shelves. Go to you local Lowe's, Home Depot, etc... and in their shelving area they have rail & hanger sets. Grab a set of those, and some white boards and you've got a super customizable shelving system.
Currently Im using a few of the el cheapo bookcases from Walmart (FYI don't use them to store heavy books/notebooks) till I get a house/condo, then its custom shelf time!
Ones that have been in their box for half a year, waiting for me to actually put them up But, I think they're the exact same ones as planetjackers, only black.
I just bought some really nice glass curios dirt cheap on clearance an Meijers. I may buy a couple more before they're all gone. I'll post up some pics when I get one or two of them assembled.
I have bought two types of shelves at target. The first is made by "Organize It" brand, and here I have two of them stacked together. They are stackable and pretty nice with doors. (I hate dust!) I paid $25 each on sale. This next one is made by "Steralite". Has 4 shelves and doors. It's made out of all plastic and it's pretty rugged and SUPER easy to assemble. no tools needed. It was about $69. Both are on target.com: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-1/qid=1139462045/ref=sr_2_1/602-0840859-9945422?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B000063SLI and http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-2/qid=1139462380/ref=sr_2_2/602-0840859-9945422?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00005OU6Y
Most of mine are boxed up but here's what it was. Most Hasbro lines complete. And about a 3rd of the Japanese. Never had them displayed properly Also have a rented storage unit (climate controlled) filled to the ceiling with doubles, or misb's. Until room to properly display them ALL Most of the Takara reissues are behind the Hasbros. Including Soundwave, Soundblaster & Megatron. And some ehobby's. Starscream guards a closet full of TF's on the left The Hemans are all Skeletors closet Had this going on for awhile in the livingroom, but put it all back up. ( Energon complete) Centurions dislpay SW Titanium & Micros Here's 95% of the toys Ive crammed into my little apt in the past 3yrs http://photobucket.com/albums/v148/loebig/Toy%20Hauls/ Have a bunch of other collection pics but trying to take it cheesy. And it ain't easy. *crunch
I've got a 5-shelf bookcase I got at Target housing my Cyb/GF stuff, my Hot Rod shelf, some random boxed stuff on the botton and my ehobbys sitting on top. The bulk of the rest (non-G1) is on metal 5-shelf units, standard $25 affairs. The G1 stuff is on custom shelving, which is basically just long deep planks strung between the metal shelves. But it's spiffy. This is the main wall (minus another metal shelf and the wooden bookcase):
CM and Orodruin, awesome display!! Wow. I was going to post a pic of my plastic tubs, but CM beat me to it
I have the Billy Bookcase also, had a bad experience with it though. When I got it and started unpacking, the glass doors were frosted and you couldn't see through them. Called them up, and was told they don't even sell unfrosted doors for the Billy. I was furious, because the only reason I bought the damn thing in the first place over a regular old Wal-mart particle board bookcase was that it had doors for keeping dust out. To make matters worse, I later found out that they actually DO sell unfrosted doors, but I've never gotten around to buying them. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I still use it though.
I have nearly all of my stuff on shelves. I do, on the othe hand, have a few of my things in cases made by Cases For Collectibles (http://store.casesforcollectibles.com/index.html). They do amazing work and their prices are quite reasonable. Been using them for years.
