Changed my mind after a google search: Espionage, Psychological Warfare, and Electronic Warfare would make the main trio of Insecticons the Information Warfare Unit of the Decepticon army. Though they’re never really been used that way.

in the G1 cartoon they were mercenaries and in TFP they were more akin to heavy infantry

Thanks to the fact that the Sunbow Dinobots were built by Wheeljack and Ratchet, and that their intelligences are very comparable with similar architectures, they are surprisingly the most cohesive combiner team out of them all despite never being intended as such. When combined, Volcanicus can even use pronouns properly!

Had they been made back in G2 Seeker Sandstorm would have formed a trio with the unmade Cloud Camo and Jungle Camo Seekers who’d hopefully have been new characters.

How about Stratosphere for the Cloud Seeker and Underbrush for the Jungle Seeker? Or Tornado and Monsoon if we want to go for a natural disaster theme.

If new toys were made of them, this should be Shattered Glass Ramjet.

And this should be G2 Acid Storm.

I don't know I want enough Seekers to form a squadron which means they need to make two dozen of them at most. 18 would also be enough and not counting Slipstream who'd have to be a retool between the Siege and Earthrise molds we could get 18 Seekers.

    Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp
    Thrust, Dirge, Ramjet
    Sunstorm, Bitstream, Hotlink,
Ion Storm, Nova Storm, Acid Storm,
    Redwing, Nacelle, Blackout
    Sandstorm, “Cloud Camouflage”, “Jungle Camouflage”

WFC Unicron use the dead universe to remake the WFC timeline to be consistent the original g1/beast era cartoon timeline after the ending of kingdom.

Galvatron and Nemesis were reformatted as Galvatron 2 and Grand Scourge for the new timeline unicron modified out of the WFC timeline.

    More tidbits into my universe:

Jetformers are the Upper Crust of Cybertron. It's not a race thing, protoforms pick their alt modes like in IDW 2.0 but being a jet is exorbitantly expensive all around. In the Age of Expansion, Transformers were first modified into jet modes to act as the Primal Vanguard's advance team but in the prewar period, it's mostly just a status symbol (freedom of flight + I can afford to burn all this fuel). Vos was the City-State that invented the process and so Vosni Hunter-Seekers are particularly esteemed.

The first Predacons took the form of wildlife to first better sneak up on their prey and then fight guerilla style warfare in the wilderness against Iacon (Iacon was the Roman Empire of the time and the Predacons sort of fill for the Germanic people). Eventually a deal was struck between Halonix Maximus and Dezarus forming the Predacon Guard to protect the ruler of Iacon.

I was trying to puzzle together why everybody wouldn't have a jet mode, and while I was thinking that a jet mode would be inconvenient for every-day use, your point about fuel consumption is an excellent one, one that I'd love to steal, including the status of jet-formers as upper crust bots.

Both @SPLIT LIP and I were thinking the same thing, having less developed cultures scan animal alt modes before the invention of the wheeled alt mode.

A couple of alt mode-related headcanons of my own:
Like @Rewind Eject, I have pure jetformers as uncommon, but in order to compensate for this (and allow for more efficient fuel use), I use a vehicle-based "meta-jet," which basically works like Powermaster Optimus Prime or the Apex Armor, only vehicle-shaped. A car or motorcycle alt mode - something light and sleek - converts into an apparatus that plugs into a hollow jet, allowing the pilot to control the jet mode like it were his alt mode instead of flying a jet by stick. Similar land-based meta-vehicles are common in construction and transportation via trucking, to account for the scale discrepancy between the size of a Transformer and the load he's carrying. Otherwise, we get stuff like Armada Overload. Meta-trucks come in two main categories: smaller trucks with integrated storage compartments, like a U-Haul van, or something semi truck-shaped, which can then integrate with different trailers to turn them into cargo haulers, specialized equipment haulers (like for construction equipment), or fire engines (to carry the water needed to put out a Transformer-scaled fire)

Before the invention of the meta-truck, cycle-formers were used like carriage horses. A particularly heavy carriage load would require ten or twenty cycle-formers to move it. Thus, motorcycles were considered a blue-collar alt mode.

The modern-day upper crust don't even have functional alt modes; instead of having a working mode, they convert into something ornamental, like a sculpture or a plant (or an animal in some cases), because their work doesn't require the use of an alt mode. These are the folks that don't even have to drive themselves - they take shuttles everywhere. It's not universal - a lot of bots like high-performance sports car alt modes - but it's a definite trend.

Under Functionism, those who turn into regular cars are usually placed in the Civilian Class who perform any task that, while necessary for a functional society, can't be done directly with any specific alt mode (effectively, desk jobs). This is rationalized with the function of a car mode being to get one to their place of work faster. However, those who display the proper skills to do so can be placed in the Spy Class, and use their unassuming alt modes to infiltrate alien civilizations.

Cybertron cities are crisscrossed with large atmospheric-free tubes for high-speed transit that act like subway systems. They have room for a small tram but the highway and open upper half dedicated to flyers garner the most usage. Some of the lesser used or abandoned tubes also serve as locations for illegal racing.

I don’t think any of the Decepticons like Octane. He’s a petty asshole.

If there was a list of “Decepticons Other Decepticons Hate” he’d be in the top 5 or 10

    Barrage, Cutthroat, Skullcruncher, Fangry, Flamefeather…

Except for Fangry, most of those are more in chaotically stupid/destructive camp.

Simply Cybertronians with deep malfunctions who seem to only be good for smashing stuff.

Cutthroat's teammate, Sinnertwin is also like this, but at least can somewhat function as a guard.

    For actually irredeemably, hated Con:

Octane (while Swindle would still demand something from a drained bot for a sip of energon, he at least wouldn't deliberately sell tainted stuff)
Fangry (utterly refuses to listen to orders)
Drag Strip (ceaseless braggart of questionable accomplishments)
Horri-Bull & Skalor (the deliberate bad hygiene duo)

Motormaster is hated by his own team because he takes his frustrations out on them, but other Cons acknowledge his leadership abilities

Apeface and Snapdragon were part of the same group as Doubledealer, and in fact learned the art of Triple changing from him. However they broke up because Dealer loves money too much and those two love destruction.

Roadbuster and Whirl in my mind are basically the TF versions of Odo and Quark from DS9:
