I kept seeing a couple of these newer "Commander" Power Combiners.

What's up with Hasbro slapping on the Commander title for them?

Eh, probably just a thing. It's probably one of the easily identifiable terms they can use for a larger character in a series. Obviously leader is already taken, and putting in other common terms for a higher rank like general/captain/lieutenant is less fitting.

Commanders are the only ones that have three modes for robot, alt, and combined. It's also the new name for Scouts apparently.

PCC Combiners are a lot bigger than Cyberverse Commanders.

Just compare Mudslinger to Sentinel Prime. - That said Hatchet is pretty close to scout size but perhaps a more direct comparison for Hatchet is a Cyberjet, Skyscorcher or Axcelerator.

I consider HA Basics to be the successor line to PCC Combiner 2 packs personally.

I hope they throw out a few more PCC's in the DOTM spin off line some could do with repainting or even distributing properly in the first place.

I agree with some of the above folks CV Commander seems to be the size (and illustrative of a chracter of high rank or large comparitive size to some degree like Leader Class often is) where as Commander for PCC seems more descriptive and the toys themselves taken in isolation are still "Scouts" just as HA Basics are still essentially Scouts if one removes the HA figure.

That said I don't think it's impossible that Hasbro might realise that the CV Commander class also works to do someone who's tiny like Movie Wheelie so they can be small in comparison to Leader but still a decentish size.

I think CV Commander is a good scale to make Kitchen Crew as well or even Signal Flare. but they probably won't make anything like that if the line is soon transferring over to Prime Universe CV toys instead of Movie toys. I'd be surprised (but pleased) if they left CV mixed - but it's not impossible as Animated & Classics Legends shared a line as well as with Cybertron legends repaints.

The good thing about a mixed line is they can use the Playset class to make a tiny G1 Prime too. or even Erector

Because they "command" a team of drones, I'd assume?
