One of my side collections is old railroad paraphernalia and among them is a small but growing set of a specific style of employee number badges. I discovered on eBay just the other day that there was a listing for a badge almost identical to one I already own except the number was different - the price was far too high but the guy listed it as rare so I figured I'd still be paying more than I really should have. The auction was relisted this morning with a make-offer and I asked for 50% off the price - and it was accepted! Still higher than I would have liked but I wasn't going to push past 50% and these things in good condition are rare (it's from the 1950s and it's got a few dings at worst). I'm very pleased to have acquired a second badge for the same railroad suffice to say.
Drove to Wisconsin this morning in search of New Glarus beer. I found what I was looking for, and then some.
Wabash RR. Which is actually kind of ironic given my main RR of focus is actually the Chicago and North Western - I have a similar looking badge for that railroad, too, but it's from the 1970s due to the version of the herald on the badge. I know my Wabash badge is from the 50s because it has the address of the production company on it - I had to ask online to figure it out but it actually indicates the zip code of St. Louis as "2". Zip codes were at first much shorter than the ones we know today!
Normally I don't bother with cute plushies but there were two on Makeship that just...called to me. My budget is crying but I'm still well within the limit, I'm just trying to save money for some upcoming cons. Not like these things are going to arrive until mid-July anyway.
Bought some new HO scale locomotives at a small show today. Got a good deal on a high end unit and a locomotive that was labeled as a dummy (not powered, this used to be a thing years ago for cheaper locomotives purely for aesthetics) ended up being the much more expensive powered version so I'm still super happy about that.
