I would love to know why some people act like reissues are junk compared to the first release I have found nothing wrong with reissues and found some reissues to be better then the first release.

Probably because of authenticity and claims that the newer plastic is inferior. But, Fortress Maximus proved that a lot of people were willing to overlook that in favor of a much lower price.

I bought some TRU Reissues and my only problem was with the oversized missiles. Otherwise, I loved getting those molds brand new at lower prices.

There may be some concerns with mold degradation, which might mean loose joints and general floppiness of the figure. More often, it's from scalpers and resellers concerned that their profit margin is being cut into with more previously scarce (but highly sought after) supply of merch being released to meet demand. :D

I'm a big fan of reissues because I wasn't around when G1 was first on, so obtaining those older figures is way too expensive. Reissues let me grab em for a more manageable price.

Uh somebody that sells vintage TF's might get worried that the reissue might hammer the value of vintage toys, but he's not a scalper.

I would rather have a G1 reissue than a beat to hell original version. I have a couple originals from the 80's that mean something to me because they are connected with my own childhood. But if I had the option of someone else's original and a brand spankin' new reissue I would choose the latter.

That's why I said "scalpers and resellers". Not that one is the same as the other. Profit is still a concern, yes? No moral judgment was made with my statement; it is what it is.

This argument is like 14 years old, I think within the last 14 years they have been accepted by the fandom minus the real hardcore G1 collectors as long as they are from Hasbro or Takara. I remember when the same arguments were made over reprolabels decals. KOs do more damage to the reseller than the reissues.

    Three main reasons:

    1. they are not vintage and to some only vintage is legit.

    2. changes are made for the US reissues for safety reason .

    3. some collectors bemoan the reissue of formerly rare figures hurting the value of the ones they own.

Funnily we did not see much of this for the fort max reissue ( maybe due to the shock the reissued it at all) but when Hasbro did general retail releases of versions of the universe 2.0/classics seekers formerly only available as botcon figures ( although not the same as the botcon versions)some had a righteous fit.

Boy did they have a fit, you can get those seekers now for 80$ a piece maybe a little bit more. They were selling for 200$+ at one point.

Still blown away by the reissue of Fort Max. Was there ever any tracking on the price change for the vintage one?

I think it lowered the price for the vintage loose Fort Max but if you have a vintage boxed one I don't think it effected it much.

    I have reissues and originals.

I can live with it, this is a hobby not an all devoting $$$$ life style here.

Some things annoy me on them, so some will be replaced as time goes by and I find vintage ones.

IF they bother you do not buy them, they are also nice place holders until you get that "original" grail you have to have, you can usually get your money back to boot.

I hear Americans don't count the Gold Boxed G1 Reissues from Europe in the 1990's as "Proper" and I always hear people declaim Korean Transformers as little better than KO's.

Not an attitude I personally share.

Also there is the "New" Retro ones too like Road Rage, Clampdown, Deep Cover, Detritus or Sunstorm - I count them as legit 100%.

But yes something tend to garner more interest than others with me - Like I never was especially keen on the white Astrotrain (no idea why) but the purple and grey one was positively exciting... I can only put that down to the idea of "a vintage style box" - which is pretty silly.

Sometimes I'm waiting for a better than the original to be made - like some Encore was - I would really like a Soundblaster with a different colour tape door - but the never make one "Sigh"

If you don't want to imply anything, be careful of your choice of words. The word "scalpers" has a negative connotation. By using the word you implied a "moral judgment". You could have just said resellers and that would have explained it with no "moral judgment". Scalpers usually sell new items, so they would be scalping the reissues, not the originals. Take the recent MP Grimlock reissue. Scalpers are all over selling the reissue, but the original is mostly being sold by collectors. I don't think the reissues affect the original values of the G1 toys. The hardcore G1 collectors still want the originals, not the reissues. I think it does cause confusion where the accessories are concerned though. It is difficult to tell sometimes if the weapon is an original or a reissue.

As for the principle of value - I was poking about recently and found a set of unopened Gold carded Combaticon reissues - I suspect those poor little guys have been devalued by to many options of a Bruticus and all the repaints he got in the early 2000s (most of which I love especially the grey one) - they can stay where they are though if some one is only going to offer pennies for them I'd not think they were valuing or respecting them - to me they are worth more than an 'easy dismissal'.

true to degree but to me so longs the ones releasing them are hasbro or takara or are offically licensed they are legit.

The gold European boxed G1 figures are really nice and for European Transformers collectors like me really add to our collections.

I think all of you are talking about g1 series and I'm talking about takara MP series I have first release and the reissue the plastic and joints are no different as far as I can tell I have even set and compared just to make sure.
