Fortunately living in Las Vegas I never have to endure hurricanes again (so my Superstorm Sandy PTSD doesn’t kick in again), but there’s still monsoon season to deal with

I don't believe in hell, but the universe is random--the cold equations, the fact that life has to feed on other life, the ease with which life can be destroyed--I think that sapient beings are the source of justice and compassion in the universe, and that in us lies the hope of ever creating anything even remotely like Hell's opposite.

or if Hell is real, i think of it as personalized. Think what we have seen on Lucifer. You have to relive painful moments over and over and can never change it. It is an infinite loop till you can self change. We saw this with the reporter (Linda's husband) and Mr. Said Out Bitch. But went to Hell and relived a torment over and over.

 

Poena sensus and poena damni. Pain of sense and pain of loss.

 

Living.

 

An eternal conscious existence separated from all sensation. Not being able to see, hear, touch, taste, or smell anything, and not being aware of your own body (because it's not there). No sleeping, no unconsciousness, a constant awareness of nothing. Madness follows quickly, I imagine.

 

To be honest, this forum can be hell sometimes.

 

But how can you be mad, or, in other words, have derangement of the senses if there are no senses? And how can there be a consciousness without a mind and a body to support that mind? Unless you are speaking of some sort of metaphysical state.

 

Madness may not have been an accurate term, but I mean an opposite to peace and serenity. And I sort of view the mind as the sum of the brain and the soul. After death, the brain ceases to exist but the soul continues, therefore the mind is broken. The soul is your core being without the sensory input your brain provides. Your mind will perpetually try to function without an essential component.

 

Pretty much every friggin' day. But aside from that I am a piss-poor excuse for a Christian but I do practice religion and believe in Hell as a place. Just my belief for what it is.

 

Biblical hell is terrifying. Eternal torment and agony in fire. Unceasing forever.

Even the worst of the worst pagan versions of hell have nothing on that. Actually I don't know of any global religious version of hell that matches that terror.

 

I've not come across anything as terrifying. I mean, there are beings that exist in some religions that do terrify you to think about but the idea of a place where you aren't just tortured unendingly but also burn forever? I can't think of anything more disturbing.
