It's unclear and that's not a bad thing. You really don't need everything spoiler this far from the release so it's nice to see the production team is attempting to keep some things secret for the movie.

For now lets just call his character Dr. Robert Ford since it would be kind of fun to connect Westworld and Transformers.

Just did a google search. Turns out he's actually cybernetic. He dissapates into flying transformium particles and reanimates himself as Morgan Freeman

 

Everyone knows he's the guy that ate Megatron's face.

 

I'm thinking he might be the 'librarian' character mentioned. Maybe there is some kind of secret order that monitors and is aware of the Transformers (and other mysteries perhaps) going back centuries and they have collected related artifacts. My current guess.

 

Probably the most insane thing I've said, but he could be Archibald Witwicky.

 

He has a better chance at being Sam Witwicky.

I think the characters at the very least share at least some of the same history as given the motto reappeared it's only logical that they at least share a common cause of some sort.....

I have a little theory on this, what if they were both part of the same secret organisation that it appears Anthony Hopkins is part of, and the original mission that found frozen megatron was a cover story..... and the REAL Reason the voyage was undertaken was to actually FIND MEGATRON, So as Anthony Hopkins is a knight in the film, it also stands to reason that Archibald was also a knight of some description, one that the organisation Hopkins is part of had to withdraw their presence from, and cover their tracks as soon as he went insane.....so maybe just maybe Sam could be a knight and not actually know it.

 

Maybe he's Noah's dad? Just innocently wishing to find a single berry before getting his feet wet

 

It's SIR Edmund Burton....so even in the film he is actually a knight by title....this just has to have significance don't you think.

 

For some reason I get the vibe that Anthony Hopkin's character is going to be like one of the Watchers from the Highlander series, he knows and see much but he is more or less neutral.

I was hoping he'd be Unicron, but I guess they're going to under-use his talent, by playing the role of another human nobody. Kelsey Grammer was wasted too.

He isn't going to be a human nobody. He's one of the crucial characters in the film since we do know that he will have connection with the past events that have been presented to us.

The more I hear about the character, the more I believe the idea that Anthony Hopkins isn't a mere human. If they take inspiration from the episode "Madman's Paradise" it could be possible that Anthony Hopkins will be either a Cybertronian or a Quintesson that has been living among the humans and observing the course of events that have played out.

 

Yeah, he was on the side of creatures who were basically Ancient Rock Transformers, so why not autobots this time?

But yeah it wouldn't suprise me if he was a surprise enemy
but let's break this down:

Noah (2014)

The watchers

• Sad backstory: being banished by the Creator
• "Beings" that fell from the sky
• made from some kind of hard material (mud and stone)
• Can transform in rocks
• became fugitives after doing some good deed for mankind
• 11 to 15 feet tall
• Are protected by Anthony Hopkins

So yeah the Watchers are basically Prehistoric Transformers
Transformers (2007-...)

• Sad backstory: forced to leave Cybertron and also something involving Creators
• "Beings" that fell from the sky
• made from some kind of hard material (metal)
• Can transform in cars etc...
• became fugitives after doing some good deed for mankind
• most of the autobots are around 15 feet or taller
• Are maybe protected by Anthony Hopkins

If Anthony turns out to be a good guy, it might not be the first time he protects large humanoid beings...

 

and Primus! that's the twist!

 

I really hope that's the case. But I'm not that optimistic.
