What do you think would happen if Hasbro was to go bankrupt tomorrow?

Then another company would almost assuredly acquire the rights to the Transformers, and/or Hasbro's other major brands. It's too profitable a property to be left fallow. Takara would probably still make stuff as well.

Yeah, everything would be sold off to other companies to cover debts and whatever. Transformers wouldn't cease to be if Hasbro went under. Disney would probably buy it. :p

Hostess went under, but Twinkies are still around.

If Hasbro went under, somebody else would merely make the toys.

If Hasbro went bust, I'd probably be better off financially!! On all seriousness, major properties would live on. Some other company would buy them out.

It'd be funny if Takara bought the license and TF became a Japan-only line we all had to import, lol.

Well, look how it was with the Prime line. Japan got three variations of the Breakdown voyager mold. The rest of us? A legends toy.

Each one of those Breakdown variants were also pretty heavy retools (Swerve has a new head, Silas Breakdown has the 'terminator eye' head along with a chromed grill and a molded Silas in the chest) and came individually with all-new micron weapon sprues.

Compare that to the entire Prime line, where outside of the heavy retools of the same characters for the Beast Hunters continuation, the only time any toy was significantly altered beyond a head retool to be somebody else was Ultra Magnus's second voyager, and only because the animation studio was too lazy to actually whip up a new model to reflect the first voyager.

Part of the term "going bust" means that the dying company sells off its assets. Often times those assets are priced at a premium, so other companies will happily gobble them up.

Hasbro's doing fine though, don't worry. Though I think there was some shortsightedness in the way the rolled out the MP line.

I seriously doubt this would happen, Hasbros the third biggest toy company in the world.
But if it did, I'd want Spin Master to get their stuff.

Matell would ruin it, and don't even start me on Disney.

And why wouldn't Takara just sell stuff here?

    Should this be considered Blashpemy?

Just kidding, if Hasbro went bankrupt than it could be a good thing for the Transformers Line or a bad thing

Don't get me wrong, I love Spin Master, but they haven't shown the capacity at brand management and development that'd be needed to manage Hasbro's portfolio, given what they've done with their own successful brands. Currently, they're a lot more likely to go under in the short term than Hasbro.

Who knows though, maybe with brands like Hasbro's under their belt, they could finally break out and accomplish what neither they, nor "previous" Canadian toy companies like Irwin Toys have managed to in the past.

Takara might be able to sell stuff here, but it would probably take a long time for them to get all the necessary licenses, certifications, business connections and other bureaucratic stuff to do so. There's a reason most japanese toy companies work with north american companies to distribute/rebrand their products, look at how long it took Bandai to really make inroads onto the north american market, and they're the world's 3rd largest producer of toys.

What effect would the partnership with Takara (and any other toy companies) have? I'd imagine they couldn't just sell off the rights to Transformers without getting Takara involved, given how they help actually create the toys. Would they gain total ownership of TFs if Hasbro failed?

Now if only Mattel would go bust and Hasbro buy their property and maybe we could get a Wheeled Warriors line maybe featuring a Transforming Saw Boss :D

I just remembered I saw a comercial for a Chugington train set and it was made by a company named Tomy. Looked them up an lo and behold, they're Takara!

So I think they do sell stuff here.

This probably holds more water than people think.
