What if every triple changer had to have robot, beast, and vehicle modes? Which vehicle would you replace/think the character would replace?

one idea I had was Springer as a helicopter/*kangaroo* triple changer that would give him a very unique beast mode and put focus on the rarely mentioned jumping abilities that give him his name.

You need more imagination. 

 

I mean if it were up to me this would be the default for every transformer, it’s my favorite type of them lol.

 

I think the toys would suffer dearly.

Case in point: Titans Return Alpha Trion. He is a triple changer, going from robot to lion to vaguely aircraft carrier like spaceship back to robot. The biggest problem being the halves of the lion head - they just kind of fold up obstrusively on the sides of a very not animalistic looking spacecraft.

It's one thing to say you want triple changers to have animal and robot modes, but you have to actually figure out the way the transformations could feasibly work since you're trying to merge organic looking kibble with non-organic looking kibble.

 

Springer would be a helicopter and a frog. Broadside would be a aircraft carrier and a bird (Roc) and sandstorm would be a helicopter and a Lizard of some kind.

The Decepticons fall apart a bit. Blitz wing, Jet and Rhino? Octane a whale? And tanker truck? Astrotrain??? A train and a space... bird... who’s big...

 

A curious idea, though designs would need a whole load of work to incorporate vehicle and beast modes to the robot design.

Spinger as a kangaroo or frog would be neat.

Blitzwing could be a pterodactyl as well as a tank and jet. (He's got wing in his name, it'd have to be an aerial creature)

Octane would be a raptor, a fast animal.

I can't think of an animal for Astrotrain.

 

I think the easiest choice for Astrotrain is a space monster like the Terrorcons.

 

It would be cool if they made triple changers of the G1 Beast Cassettes

Ravage, Lazorbeek Rabat even the autobot ones, I think it would have been sweet to see them govfrim tape to beast to a humanoid mode

 

In general I’m not a fan of robot beast modes outside of the Dinobots. For me they were always the robots in *disguise* that could pass off as every day things. An ape or rhino that’s made out of metal can’t do that.

And from a toy perspective, the vehicles look better to me because they look more realistic.

but honestly tripple changers in general I don’t love because they have to make too many concessions so at least one mode winds up suffering.

 

I think the concept would be interesting, But if both modes manage to blend in. If you're going to make a transmetal-esque beast mode. Commit to the part, make it blend in, like the closest thing to those triple changers with beast modes were. Well. The Transmetals.

 

There's only one valid beast mode for Springer

Given that a lot of the BW names were plays on the name of the animal, Orcatane (whale / tanker), Asstrotrain (donkey / train) and Bitchwing (canine / plane) could just about work...

 

That's basically what the Transmetals were, more or less.

 

Bumblebee would transform into a bumblebee and a beetle. Wait, those are both animals... No, wait, those are already his modes...  

 

Triple changers usually go off of the principle of have an assault based or high speed ground vehicle and a flight vehicletriple changers that already possess beast modes like snapdragon and apeface use their beast modes as shock attack units. With that in mind maybe Blitzwing could swap his tank mode for a rhino or a tortoise armed with laser cannons. Astrotrains difficult since both his modes are transport based a centipede maybe? Springer I imagine as helicopter and Cheetah and Sandstorm as an eagle like bird and his beach buggy.

I never knew I needed Blastoisewing until now.

 

Maybe they don’t have to be organic beasts, though. Like, look at Apeface. He’s obviously an ape...ish...but a half decent mechanical bot and jet thing as well. Astrotrain could be bot/shuttle/centipede. Octane could be bot/tanker/dragonfly.

 

Oh yeah I totally missed that. I wonder if anyone has ever done pokemon transformers? I'm not sure the world is ready for such a thing

 

If Apeface and Snapdragon (even Doubledealer since he has the requisite modes) are any indication, I think the other triple changers could achieve a similar format. It all depends on the how well the beast modes can be integrated into the character's overall theme.
