I've been noticing something. Swords seem to be getting worse and worse. Remember when Generations Drift Animated Megatron, and Animated Grimlock had giant swords with the figure? Now we look at the Prime RiD figures. Both Dreadwing and Optimus have giant swords in the show, but the toys have machetes.

Why is that? Saves on plastic? Makes sure kids don't accidentaly stab themselves?

Dread's sword really isn't that small with the figure...smaller than in show sure, but still pretty big. On RID Optimus, one can argue that it wasn't even an acccurate weapon to begin with (sure it supposedly looked like the star saber NOW), but before that, Prime only had blades that come out of his arms, which the RID one didnt get...

I'm more concerned with Wheeljack's swords really, they dont look enough like katanas--

and like others have said, the plastic invested in that Powerizer gimmick is probably to blame...

Wheeljack's swords seem to be decently sized, and (while not a sword) Knockout's staff is pretty decent.

The issue seems to be more the Powerizer gimmick. Plus not having to figure out a place to stow the swords.

Yeah some of the newer swords are kind of eh. The swords Optimus and Dreadwing come with look too short. And then there's stuff like FOC Ultra Magnus' sword which looks way too heavy and clunky.

I was about to mention the FoC Swords... but as points to how they're awesome.

Magnus' and Fireflight's swords are pretty amazing. Like I said, it's the Powerizer gimmick cutting the budget for accessories. Without that albatross around its neck they can release awesome swords.

Have swords ever been that big? Both in size and in the amount of swords we actually get with figures?

It could also depend on how much space is available in the mold. They're not going to spend the money on an entirely separate mold just for someone's sword, if they can fit it into one they're already using.

If you go by human swords (that they can actually use to fight not the final fantasy bullshit) dreadwings sword seems pretty spot on for scale to me. Really if you go by a human standard if your sword is equal to your in hight and or as thick or thicker than your arm no way are you using it one handed and if your using it two handed it still leaves you open to a lot of other fighting styles.

Of course all that may not apply at all as they are robots not humans but then why would robots use swords, war hammers would be far more effective.

Putting human logic onto this is just silly.

Almost every single TF gun is ridiculously oversized for a person. Swords should be similarly oversized.

In a similar vein, I assume you're saying warhammers would be good because blunt weapons are effective against armored humans? The thing with TFs is that unlike armored humans, where the metal shell hides a soft, easily disoriented, squishy human, metal TF armor covers... metal people. Assuming the sword can break "skin" then it should be way more effective than a bludgeoning weapon.

^ I was just about to point that out. :thumbs2:

And incidentally, that mold works SO MUCH BETTER as Magnus than Prime.

I'm certain if the swords were any bigger, they would be made from soft rubbery plastic. This is what I think, of course.
