I never really got into Transformers until Revenge of the Fallen came out.

Before that, I watched Cybertron every morning before school and I did see the first movie in theaters.

Well technically I grew up on Beast Wars but I didn't become a fan of Transformers up until Animated.

I thought G1 was a complete waste of time when it originally aired and didn't bother with non-Japanese shows at that time. The first time I saw Transformers TMP was back in 1997 at a college anime screening one Saturday evening. I got bored after 10 minutes and walked out to get some work done with my second semester Computer Networks lab partner. Didn't bother with the franchise at all until DOTM because it promised the kind of humans versus machines all-out destruction that the Terminator series never delivered.. Got into Prime after that because the voice acting rocked.

For me personally, I grew up on Beast Wars. I wasn't even aware that the G1 series that came before it existed until a year or two later.

Issue #3 of the Marvel G1 comic. I prefer the NA produced shows (G1, Beast Wars, Animated, Prime) and the first Bayformer film.

I was there at the very beginning of G1. Had just moved to another state back then and when I talked to my friends back home they would tell me about this amazing TV show about robots that transformed into cars, planes and what not. Shortly after that, the Transformers premiered out where I lived on a local station's kid's show. They serialized it into 9-11min segments so it took about a week to get through just two episodes. It really got me hooked on the series.
